I would like to calculate the numbers of bars since 3 minutes (or any interval of time) in a tick chart.
the barsince( ) dosesn't work for what I want.

Welcome to the Forum!
Is my interpretation of the problem correct: you want to count how many ticks have been drawn in the last three minutes, or another time period as set by the user?
If this is the case and you are familiar with MS code then you might like to use the code posted at http://forum.equis.com/viewtopic.php?t=4167 as an example of how to deal with date and time information. The posts there are for EOD data, but you can see the effect of the code and this can be 'transported' into the intraday domain...
