as (stock )traders my understanding is that volatility is good ie stocks that move around a lot are much better than the slower steady moving types

for me though, the question is --- how to isolate a bunch of movers to keep an eye on

ideally we should be able to compare the stock's movement with say an index

one idea I've heard of is Beta, which is built in to MS --I've read what it is but don't understand how to use it at all

would some knowledgeable member assist in explaining how to use it -- or some other way
