This might sound easy, but I didnot figure out how to complete this after having checked the menus of Metastock and Downloader and the threads of this forum. The question is: How do we create a symbol list (i.e. save as a file) of all the securities that are in a local directory? Thanks very much for any guidance.

I would suggest running an exploration, like "Equis MSU Rank", that does not have a filter. copy the results to a spreadsheet program. Now save the symbol column to a CSV file and rename it to .sym

Hi,

There is an easy to use command line tool "atem". Beside other things it can also excract symbol information only like you see on the screenshot there
