Well, here's something new to chat about - version 10.

I was kinda hoping for Heikin-Ashi Candlesticks, but no indication that they've been added.

Update: just got this from the daily Yahoo MS list digest, written by "johndoetrader18":

------------------------------------------
It looks like only the QuoteCenter version is ready now. The good news is they've added a really lovely license verification feature that will keep everyone from installing it on more than one machine at a time unless they buy a second copy.

Think about how much fun it will be when you get a new computer and you have to uninstall MS from you original machine before you can install it on your new machine!
------------------------------------------

Sounds like fun, doesn't it? I just migrated to a new machine a month ago; it took over a week to get it smoothed out and running correctly after tweaking and reinstalling a lot of complex/custom software I use in business. If I'd had to uninstall MS from the old machine prior to attempting the migration I would have been dead in the water for that week.

I think I'll stick with 9.1 for a while . . . . . . .

Now we get to see if any of the suggestions from the wish list are part of the "incredible new features" [;)].

So far, absolutely nothing on the short list of new stuff gets me excited; it looks like the main "improvement" is built-in integration to other stuff for which they sell subscriptions.

I'm certainly willing to wait for detailed lists of changes, fixes and improvements but don't see anything that would justify a "big number" version change to 10 except for marketing reasons (since 9.x has been available for a couple of years now).

We'll see; I hope Equis employees hop onto this thread to elaborate, or start a "Here's What's New" thread.

I just ordered it. They said that at this time it is only available as a download and the disks and manuals will follow towards mid-October.

I asked about only being able to install on one machine and they said that there is a new system to prevent piracy, but you still can install it on your home computer and office computer. They said that you may have misunderstood the installation procedure if you got the impression that it can only be installed on one computer.

Did you order it as an upgrade or new purchase? If upgrade from 9.x, how much did they charge for it?

I take it from your post that you downloaded it immediately; any initial impressions, and does it install right over existing versions?

I ordered an upgrade from V9.1. Usually the upgrade price is a function of which version you upgrade from, but my price was $199 plus $16 shipping and handling for the CD and manuals. You also have the manuals as PDFs in the program directory.

I have not spent enough time to say if the changes are worth the upgrade price, but I tend to upgrade when it is available because I have used this program for about 15 years and don't anticipate moving away from it any time soon, so pay them now or pay them later.

There is a new indicator, Rahul Mohindar Oscillator, some new line studies, Fibonacci Projections and Dynamic Trend, improved Explorer and Downloader functions and increased functionality features.

You need a high speed internet connection, 182 MB file, but it took about 15 minutes to download and install the program. Installs over previous version and everything seems to have installed correctly. No problems yet!

Members,

Normally I am the biggest sceptic and cynic, but it seems I have been overtaken by people making claims about MS10 that are unfounded, so far.

When the first few people have received their copies, they will post their views and concerns based on actual installation and use of the system, not some pseudo-anonymous posts on a bulletin board. I am hopeful MS10 will be more than a launching ramp for their other commercial ventures and subsciber services.

I agree with you Wabbit, hope I didn't come across as instantly-negative (I'm not) and have actually been looking forward to an upgrade release to see what's fixed and what's new that people have been asking for - that's why I'm hoping we see a lengthy, detailed "What's New/What's Fixed" file or webpage. MS 9.1 has been out for a long time, so there's been quite a bit of opportunity to gather user feedback/requests and work on development. I've only owned it since May, so I have much learning ahead of me with what I've got, and I'm not eager to shell out another upgrade fee just yet (and no word if purchases within X number of days/months qualify for free or cheap upgrade pricing) unless it offers something I think I need or am interested in.

And I really, really hate onerous licensing/usage restrictions on products that are part of my daily routine - from the time I wake up until I flake out for the night I move among 3 different systems in two locations, all of which are used only by me; they're tied together by LAN and WAN so to me they are one big platform for my geeky needs and one license should suffice. Currently, I have installed MS on only one of these boxes, the fast desktop in my home office, but may eventually want to put it on my notebook PC as well.

So far, the little amount of upgrade info on the Equis website doesn't jazz me, but I'm out here waiting to be jazzed! 9.1 is pretty darn good, so I'm ok with waiting for more details to emerge.

Cheers!

Would you please let us know where in the upgrade's directory structure lie the PDF manuals? Or, better yet, one of the filenames so a search will quickly turn up the doc directory.

My father has been going back and forth on buying MS for the last month or so, knowing I've had it for a few months. Coincidentally, he pushed the button and bought it yesterday directly from Equis after getting their demo/literature package - this was just before we both discovered there was a Version 10 and he was getting that one. He downloaded and installed it successfully, but is struggling with getting up to speed since he hasn't discovered any documentation and says Equis told him they won't ship him CDs or manuals until they're ready in October - his sales guy said nothing about PDF docs included. So he started with nothing at all to guide him and he has zero experience with previous versions to help the learning curve.

This morning I did my best to get him started with basic questions, but I'm using 9.1 and I'm 1,200 miles away so it wasn't the best training situation. If you got PDF docs with your upgrade I'm hoping he did too for the full package and just needs a pointer to the correct directory to find them.

If for some reason he doesn't have PDF docs, by the time he gets the printed ones his 30-day eval period may have expired - so I might recommend he "return" the download immediately and buy a full-retail 9.1 boxed version from a dealer so at least he has reference materials to guide him during the evaluation period.

Thanks.

I jsut downloaded version 10. I put it in "holding" folder until Equis mails out the documentation. I would advise all users to wait for the manuals before attempting to upgrade. You don't know what problems will occur in trasnferring indicators, explorations etc. from version 9+ to version 10. The marketing person said that tech support has a new workaround for anyone who has filled up his/her indicator list. They did not create the multiple indicator files that was included in version 8.

I'll wait for early adapters to report any bugs here, before I laod this baby on my computer!

There are 9 PDF manuals in the MetaStock folder.

I noticed that there is a PDF for moving the license from computer to computer. One way to do this is to have a transportable USB drive that contains the license, sort of like the Dongle lock used on software. The manual states that it only takes a couple of minutes to transfer the license. So over the course of a week, if you transfer the license between work and home each work day, that means a minimum of 20 minutes a week or about 1000 minutes a year transfering the license. Heck, no big deal, I have all sorts of free time for this sort of thing.

Thanks, Bill.

Are any of those 9 manuals a "What's New & Different in Version 10" type book? If so, Equis really should put that online here for all to check out.

And if you forget to bring it back home or to the office one day, you're stuck dead in the water? The license key is somehow dynamically changing each time the program is run?

Only a couple of pages in one of the manuals.

My father has still not located those PDF files; he's going to do a thorough search of his drives to see if they ended up somewhere else. Since this download is his first MS installation, he has no experience or older manuals to go on (Equis is telling him manuals and CDs will ship to him sometime in October), so without the docs he's sort of lost trying to get up to speed so far. If he can't find any doc files, I told him to [censored] hard at Equis to get them ASAP because we all know the complexity of MS - imagine trying to learn it from scratch with no docs at all.

My Dad installed his v10 download to both his desktop and notebook at home, and says they both run fine without having to move a license file back and forth. He's only tried one at a time, but will experiment with leaving one open and starting the other one and let me know what happens. He's also scraped both copies and reinstalled with new hard drive partitions that are accessible to each machine on his LAN; he's going to experiment with having both copies share a common database.

So maybe it's not necessary to physically move a license file back and forth, or perhaps his download was a slightly different build and the licensing routine is still being tweaked because his experience doesn't line up with your description of the PDF file instructions.

We'll see . . . .

Update: My Dad located the v10 PDF manual files on his hard drive today, so he's off and running with plenty to read.

Mr. Billtrudeau,

We are looking forward to hear about your experiences with the new version. Your comments about the new line studies, Downloader functions and increased functionality features seem to be something new. You may want to enlighten about other changes that you may have noticed.

Regards

I have not yet found any new features that provide enough benefit, for my purpose, that justifies the upgrade price. I would say about $25 would have been fair. The new Expert does not impress me, thus far. From what I see, the line study is only available if you sign up for a $250 per month add-on.

Some windows are resizeable and there are additional tabs on the Explorer. Nice, but none of the features that I wanted and have seen on the wish lists are in the new version.

I have not spent a great deal of time looking for new features, only looked at those listed as being new in the manual, and tried to look at them to get an idea what they would do.

It seems as though the primary focus is on providing quick links to other products that you can purchase on a subscription basis. In the 15 years that I have been using MS, this is the weakest upgrade, from the point of view of the functionality of the basic program.

Hope to hear from others who may have found features, not documented, that demonstrate the value of this upgrade.

Additional tabs and resizable windows are x.05 bugfix things, not new-version things. I've never heard of the RMO oscillator, can't find anthing about it via Dogpile or Google yet and the Equis online demo of RMO does nothing to explain what it actually computes and does, just how to apply it. What's the big deal; is RMO just the flavor of the month?

So far, I agree with you: the big "Version 10" release is primarily designed to provide hooks to other addon products and subscriptions that Equis is trying to sell us. Where are all the fixes, features and improvements that have been on the Forum user wishlists for many months?

It'll take more to convince me to push the upgrade button. However my father, being a new purchaser just last week, got v10 as his first MS, so I can try to learn more about it through him.

I just find the last trade marker useful but it is already a basic feature in QuoteCenter.

i just bought the ver 10 copy last week,

the RMO indicator is really great tool to find excellent buy/sell setups,

just within 2 days i really was able to trade some sucessfull trades, works like a charm.
well, to be very frank not for traders who don;t trust third party indicators without more details on it or how it works.

i am glad ver 10 has this inbuilt, make hay while the sun shines with the RMO :-)
