Hello

I have created a layout which displays a share being view in 3 different ways - each in a window of its own. Window 1 shows candlesticks, EMA and a buy/sell adviser, Window 2 shows the GMMA and window 3 shows bars, stop loss, profit taking.

I wanted to know if Metastock allows you to save this style (multiple windows within the main screen) as your default template so that when i open a new stock to view it shows me the stock in the 3 different viewings.

I have tried but all i get is the one window that was selected at the time of going through the steps of creating a template.

If not, what is the best way of setting up your screen to display this image or is creating an individual layout for each stock you want to view the only way. I am happy to attach a sample if required. I have read where you can create shortcuts too??

Mouse.

Delete all smart charts (MSSMART folder contents or folders complete with contents) and MetaStock will build new smart charts from the new template as each security is opened from then on. New folders are also created as necessary. I assume you've used the "Save as Default Template" to create the new template. It's wise to create a copy of the old DEFAULT before saving a new one so you can go back to it if necessary. If everything turns to custard you can load the CLEAN template and save as new default.

Hi Roy

I have previously deleted MSSmart Charts but they seem to keep coming back and this was a very time consuming task as the system would only allow me to delete individually. What is the purpose of deleting these? I ran a search and ended up 26 files but the system won't allow me to delete them - I get a dialogue box coming up with the message "Cannont delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk". I ran a search from the Start Menu.

I think the only way to get the 3 viewings/windows of the same security on the screen is to create a new layout for each one I want to view. I don't think Metastock allows you to have multiple windows and then try and save it as a template.

Excitement plus!!! I have worked out how to get my preferred screen how i want it. Set the screen up with the 3 layouts - saved as a template - then created a custom button. Now when i open the chart of a new share all i have to do is click on the custom icon, named 'preferred template' and my screen displays the image of the 3 layouts. Just wonderful!! have a smile from ear to ear. Perserverance is the key.

Hi Mouse

My mistake – I completely missed the mention of a layout. I don't think a layout can be saved as the default template.

Open smart charts cannot be deleted, so all smart charts should be closed or MetaStock should be shut down before attempting to do this. Deleting an MSSMART folder removes all charts in it in one shot. Admittedly this could still take a while if you're using the A-Z folder format.

There are only two reasons for deleting smart charts that I'm aware of. The first is to eliminate a corrupted file causing MetaStock to crash. The second is to allow MetaStock to create new charts based on a new default template. Existing smart charts are opened as-is and are not overwritten just because a new default has been saved. A new smart chart will only be created from the default template when there is no corresponding smart chart to match the security being opened. That's why you might want to delete all smart charts from time to time.

Regards

Roy
