Oh man, what has happened to my meta? I just created a new exploration. Chose a folder of stocks to scan. everything was OK. Then I wanted to do that same exploration to different stocks. Clicked the exploration. Clicked "remove all" and the stocks disappeared. Then I chose a different folder of stocks and clicked OK. The exploration scanned BOTH folders even when I had deleted the previous folder with the "remove all" button!! --> the earlier stocks didn't disappear from the exploration even when it seemed like they disappeared.

hey finquant.... couple things come to mind here but first, when you say I bought reuters datalink today , do you mean that you subscibed to a reuters data plan.... if so , did you download the reuters symbols from equis..... when you say all the explorations are missing , they are missing from where.... do you mean the explorer itself has no explorations of any kind or do you mean the prior exploration results are missing.... when you say all my custom formulas also , do you mean that they are not in your indicator list itself...... or do you mean when you try to apply one its giving you some type of error...... if its the later perhaps, is that the custom formula referencing to a security or bm indicator from you old data supplier.... the Symbol database file not found is something i get quite often but thats cause i have some versions of meta that i have stripped out much of the program.... if you have moved from a data supplier that has a different data base setup than reuters you might have to download the sym files from equis.... most are the exe type and only take a minute.... often my indicators will have error messages saying something is missing..... thats because some of my metas use different datas suppliers..... if the indicator is looking for 'us;csco' or 'us;advq', and i'm in the meta thats set for reuters it will give the missing something error..... errors of that type are common when switching providers but easy to fix.... the same goes for explorations that have a security or broad market indicator.... holler back with some more details, odds are someone here can get it straight.....h

hey finquant..... thanks, all that helps but also rules out the simple solution.... was hoping it was a unknown symbol issue.... you have some missing or possibly renamed folders.... i often intentionaly do that for various reasons, however i always maintain a way to revert back.... your solution at this point might be to just reinsert the meta cd and reload the whole program..... that will reload the missing folders, not your custom indicators..... before you do that , couple more questions if ya have the time..... what version of meta are you using and have you by chance backed up your indicators,explorations and such..... this is a wild shot, have you by chance left your machine running this whole time or have you turned it off.... sounds funny but leave it running if it has been.....h

Ouch! :lol: She does get most of them :) finquant: Well it looks like you registry settings were reset and that your formula files were either moved or deleted ... I can't believe that the symbol file install would have caused all these problems ... Do you have a brother?(cf K) :D ... Just teasing ... Unfortunately at this poing I would look for a backup folder in C:\\Program Files\\Equis\\Metastock, If you have one copy it somewhere safe and let me know. But either way you should reinstall metastock, to at least get the standard indicators back. Patrick :mrgreen:
