It will be more useful if the "PERIODS" in the function can be a variable and not just a constant.

R U talking about a period range? Like start period and stop period? Ya got an example?

For example, in Indicator Builder, if you set up the formula:
a1:=barssince(month()<>ref(month(),-1));
ref(c,-a1)
you will get the message: "This variable of expression must contain only contant data"
In fact this not only Ref function but also other functions have this limitation.
