Equis has released MetaStock 9.1 This is not an upgrade but an update ... An Upgrade is something that has signicant changes and you usually have to pay for it. An update is usually a"maintenance" release with bug fixes in it, that you can get for free if you already own MetaStock 9.0. Now you will hear and see talks about MetaStock QuoteCenter ... Check out the QuoteCenter rooms in the forum and asjk questions about it there .. Patrick

hey patrick..... please forward my thanks to the guys/gals in that update department ..... the inclusion of both manuals in pdf style under the help section is an upgrade in itself..... pdf's allow for instant searches that do not include thumbs.... i have just about wore out my orginal print version using the low tech flip search technique , which is rough on the pages...... and scotch tape will only go so far..... thanks again......h

I guess it's better to call Equis's Sales Department so that you can make sure they send it to the right address and that they send you the right thing .... The website should have the update available sometime this week ... Patrick

I just called the sales dept. and asked about the update to 9.1 from 9.0 EOD. He said it is $16 for the update {to have a CD mailed to me}. I asked if I can just download the update – he said no you can’t. :( I am glad 9.0 is working.

hey franc99.... the only difference i've noticed was under the help section, and that was a side by side, click by click comparison, .... the equis on the web selection has several direct links for downloads, updates , patches , tech analysis a to z, tech support , among others...... but the best , for me , would be that both manuals are included, pdf style in color.... that might not seem much to those having long since memorized those manuals but to us beginners its an emense help..... i never came across any bugs in meta 9, so not sure what got swatted..... that cd might be of value if the policy of having to every now and then reinsert one for verification stays in effect.... which seems likely.....h

Patrick, Why doesn't Equis post the Metastock 9 updates in the download section of the metastock website? Thanks, Ringo

Equis used to post updates on the website .... Unfortunately people often downloaded and installed the wrong update for their software. Which by the way royally messed up their metastock software install, files, etc ... Our support departement could not handle the call volume ... So they do not provide downloadable updates anymore ... That is the official story, and for having worked in support for many years I believe it ... ;) Patrick

Hey Patrick, Thanks for the reply on this topic. If you'll forgive me, and I understand that it is now company policy, that really is the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. If people can't figure out which version of Metastock they have and which upgrade they need then maybe they should not be trying to trade this market. Practically every other software vendor on the planet offers updates via online internet download. What a pain in the ass having to call sales and pay money for an update CD and then wait in the mail for it to get here. That's supposed to be one of the benefits of the internet age, to maximize efficiency and easy access. It seems to me Equis has it backwards on this and is turning back the hands of time. Tell them to get it together. As for the unbelievable volume of calls from people who installed the wrong patches...I don't buy that for one second and, if they are that stupid, they deserve what they get. Why spoil it for the rest of us. This seems to be a way for Equis to extract more dollars from us, bad customer service move, imo. Thanks for your candidness as always. Ringo

A possible solution could be to add an UPDATE feature under the HELP tab. Then the program (whatever version) could poll the server for the appropriate patch, if any exists, then start the updater. No more phone calls. Simple!

This stuff about people applying the wrong patch to whatever version of metastock... Uh... speaking as an amatuer programmer (amatuer: derived from amor, to love) it is the responsibility of the programmer to include a procedure that checks for version info before it procedes. I now it's a little more complex guys, but come on.

Hi Patrick, One of the feature in Metastock 9.1 is it is able to group the stock by sector which is not in version 8 (I only have version 8). In order to do so, I am currently using the "Favorites" to acheive the same function. Is there a better way? Regards, Toyogo
