i am using Metastock 9.1 EOD Many times I manually update the Index data. after updating that data thru downloader, I can open it in Metastock and view the chart. but when i open it next time, it says that this is not a metastock folder. no file exist..... what can be the problem ?? pls help thanks in advance. It is possible that the files are getting "stuck" open. When you open a security, ~MSFL files are also created in that security folder. These are "lock" files that prevent data from being accessed more than once at the same. When you close the chart/close MetaStock, these files should delete themselves. If MetaStock is shutdown abnormally, these files can get stuck open.

The first item to check is if these lock files are in fact stuck open in your data folder, but you must do this through Windows, not MetaStock.

Click Start-->My Computer-->C:-->MetaStock Data (or wherever your data resides) and browse into the appropriate sub-folder. If you see ~MSFL files, delete them all. Make sure you have no open charts in MetaStock when performing this step. Try accessing your data files in MetaStock again.
