Hi,

I'm new to MetaStock and have already emailed support with the same question but haven't had a response in over a week (which I'm not happy about) so I'm hoping someone else can help me.

I'm using downloader to convert a .prn file obtained from a third party into MetaStock binary format. The conversion seems to go through correctly without any errors or warnings reported but when I try and view the data in MetaStock all my data ends on the 29 Dec 2006.

I've checked the options both for downloader and MetaStock and can see nothing obviously wrong. All the date options range from 01 Jan 1998 to today (16 Jan 2007) so I believe it should be loading and displaying the data correctly.

In the .prn file the data looks ok to me (here's an extract of the BP share data):
BP.UK,BP Amoco 8% Cum 1st Prf,01/02/07,570.00,573.50,569.50,572.00,46251440

Anyone any ideas?

Andrew

I'm sorry you haven't heard back from support yet. Please remember not to include the last three days (Sat - Mon) in your time of waiting for a response as we were closed. Still, we hope to get responses out sooner than a week (I think they estimate a day or two). Can you view the data in the DownLoader? I'm sorry, I'm not at my work computer to check to see if your format is correct or not. I can take a look when I get into work tomorrow morning.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for your response. I hadn't realised that you'd been closed for a few days (very difficult to tell on the internet) so perhaps my expectations where a little accelerated. My appologises.

I think I've solved this problem. Although it's something strange. In all previous data obtained from my supplier the code was BP. In the latest data (for this year only) it is BP.UK so they've changed it's name. I'm not sure why this is. How can I tell if there's been a genuine name changed as opposed to the format of the data that's changed.

Regards,
Andrew

No problem.
I figured you probably weren't in US based on the symbol you were asking about.
Monday was a federal holiday and we close on days the US stock markets are closed for holiday.
We're also closed on weekends.

If you get your data from us, the DownLoader will tell you that the symbol has changed and what it changed to. The data servers send a message to the DownLoader, since there is no way for DownLoader to figure this out.
If you're using a third party product, there isn't any way for us to know that the symbol changed so we can't tell you.
Unfortunately, you'll have to ask the company you get your data from how you're supposed to handle that.

I apologize I can't be of any more help, but I don't know anything about the product you use to get data.
