recently I returned to Metastock and am having trouble with Templates when using Explorer I deleted all Templates other than the one I want to show for the scan results
eg, showing Macd
but in many of the resulting charts, I get a variety of chart types with olny about 50% being the sole template including the Macd how can I get Metastock to show the default chart in explorer results? thanks

Hi, The answer depends on which version of MetaStock you are using. But if you are using a newer version of MetaStock that utilizes the Power Console, then typically what you want to do is change the Apply template setting on the Chart tab (in the Power Console) to the template desired (as opposed to Smart Chart). The "Open Chart" button within the exploration report should utilize this setting to determine how the chart will open.

Hi again, In that case "Open Chart" should be going off the existing smart chart (or a new smart chart in the event that symbol had not been previously opened). You are correct in that you can delete the "MSSMART" subfolder from your data folders. This will eliminate any existing smart charts for that particular set of symbols, and force MetaStock to once again use your Default Template. You would want your preferred template to be saved as the default template for this to work. For Online Data, you can delete the MSSMART subfolder within C:\MetaStock Data\DataOnDemand Cache. For Local Data, you can delete any MSSMART subfolders from within those particular local data locations. This will eliminate any customizations you may have made to the smart charts (i.e. line studies, text). Edited by user Thursday, May 16, 2019 2:44:29 PM(UTC)

I elimated all smart charts as suggested & seems to solve the problem
I have the Default chart as Weekly, but during a scan, results mainly show on a Daily default style chart
with the occasional Weekly chart shouldn't the results be the default Weekly chart only?
thanks

Hi again, This gets a bit tricky because there is a bit of inconsistent/different functionality at work here. For certain operations such as File > Open (and Open Chart from Explorer) the periodicity is ignored for the Default template. However, if you use Next/Previous Security (in the lower right corner of your chart) it will use the interval that the default template was saved in (if the smart chart was not already opened as the native interval of the data).
I am not sure there will be a really good solution here. You could probably: -Purge all existing smart charts (deleting MSSMART from your data folder) -Use Open chart from a report (this will come up as the native interval of the data, or the last interval the smart chart was saved in) -Change the chart from Daily to Weekly if needed -Use Next/Previous Security to navigate the list of stocks You may want to save the exploration results to a Favorites list if it makes using the Next/Previous Security option more effective at navigating your results.
