MetaStock 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17

There are up to five different ways to be notified when using an expert advisor to show that a condition has been triggered. These include a trend ribbon, commentary window, bar highlight, symbol, and alert. Creating these five items in a custom expert advisor are reviewed below. 

1. Open MetaStock.
2. From the Tools menu on the main toolbar, select Expert Advisor.
3. Select New from the right hand menu, this will open Expert Editor.
4. In the Name tab, name the custom expert advisor, and provide notes about the expert if desired. 

How do I create a Trend Ribbon for a custom Expert Advisor?

1. Click the Trends tab.
2. Paste the custom formula for the bullish trend in the Bullish window.
3. Paste the custom formula for the bearish trend in the Bearish window.
4. Select the Ribbon button, and select the display options for the bullish and bearish trends on the chart.
5. If the custom expert will only contain a trend ribbon, click Ok create the Expert Advisor, and close the editor. 

How do I create Highlights for a custom Expert Advisor?

1. Click the Highlights tab.
2. Select New from the menu on the right hand side, this will open the Experts Highlights Editor.
3. Type the desired name
4. Select the desired Color.
5. Insert\paste the formula in the Condition window.
6. Click OK to close the highlight editor
7. Repeat the above process to create multiple highlights.
8. If the custom expert will only contain bar highlights, click Ok to create the Expert Advisor, and close the editor. 

How do I create Symbols for a custom Expert Advisor?

1. Click the Symbols tab.
2. Select New from the menu on the right, this will open the Experts Symbol Editor.
3. Type the desired name.
4. Insert\paste the formula in the Condition window.
5. Click the Graphics tab.
6. Select the symbol to be used from the Graphic list.
7. Select the Size for the symbol.
8. Choose the Color for the symbol.
9. Type in a Label if one is desired to be displayed on the chart for the symbol. 
10. Select the Symbol Position and Label Position.
11. The label font, color, and size are controlled by clicking the Font button. The gray box to the right shows how the symbol will appear when it is added to a chart.
12. Click OK to close the Expert Symbol Editor.
13. Repeat the same process to create multiple symbols.
14. If the custom expert will only contain symbols, click Ok to create the Expert Advisor, and close the editor. 

How do I create Alerts for a custom Expert Advisor?

1. Click the Alert tab.
2. Select New from the right hand menu, this will open the Expert Alert Editor.
3. Type the desired name.
4. Insert\paste the custom formula into the Condition window.
5. Select the Alert tab.
6. Type in the text the alert is to display when it is triggered.
7. Click Ok to close the Expert Alert Editor.
8. Repeat the same process to create multiple alerts.
9. If the custom expert will only contain alerts, click Ok to create the Expert Advisor, and close the editor. 

How do I insert the text for an expert advisor commentary window?

1. Click the Commentary tab.
2. Within the commentary window insert the desired text for the custom expert advisor.
3. Add any desired formatting such as font size, font color, bold, and italics.
4. If the custom expert will only contain a commentary window, click Ok to create the Expert Advisor, and close the editor.
