Where are the symbols for advances and declines for both the NYSE and Nasdaq in Metastock Pro using Xenith data?

Hi,

XENITH / Eikon provides this data in a unique way. At this time it is not possible to bring this data directly into MetaStock, but it can be viewed on the XENITH / Eikon platform. The symbols are as follows:

.AD.N -- NYSE Advance/Decline/Total data
.AD.OQ -- NASDAQ Advance/Decline/Total data

Thomson Reuters uses "Fields" that are mapped to RICs (Reuters Instrument Codes such as the above symbols). In the case of these market statistics, they have multiple fields mapped to these symbols. While you can "Change Field" in a MetaStock Pro chart, there is not a way to view multiple fields at the same time. This limits the usefulness of this data as you cannot take Advances minus Declines, etc. on the MetaStock side.

I will explain how you can view this data on the XENITH / Eikon side of the platform below:

1. Launch the XENITH software (this will show up as Thomson Reuters Eikon in your Start menu under Thomson Reuters)
2. Once you are in XENITH, click the orange circle (Helios) in the upper left corner
3. Click the Chart app under My Apps
4. Right-click in the chart that opens and click Instrument Explorer
5. In the upper left of the Instrument Explorer click File --> New Composite
6. Give the composite a "Code" (I recommend using all capital letters) such as ADVDECN and click OK

7. You should now be in the Composite Expression Builder

8. In the "Insert Instrument" field, type .AD.N (click on NYSE Advances if you see suggested symbols to use)

9. To the right of the instrument in the expression builder, there should be a (Default) field. Click the drop-down arrow next to this

10. Click No. Of Issues Advancing then click the Insert button

11. Choose a mathematical operator such as the subtraction sign

12. Click the field showing No. Of Issues Advancing and change to No. Of Issues Declining and click the Insert button and click Apply

You have now created a composite instrument that you can chart in XENITH. You can see the Code name you gave the composite under the "Composites" folder in the upper left corner of the Instrument Explorer. You will notice that there is an = sign next to the Composites folder. The easiest way to chart a composite such as this is to type the = sign followed by the code you gave it, such as =ADVDECN

If you Close out of the Instrument Explorer you can then plot this composite by typing =ADVDECN in the search field in the upper left of the chart app and pressing (Enter).

As for ultimately getting this data into MetaStock directly, this is something we're working toward as we overhaul the MetaStock formula language.  One of the items we're looking at is the ability to choose different field IDs (FIDs) which would then allow us to perform calculations on this data.
