I'll jump in here and tell you what I do. But any method which is profitable is a good method. I trade ETF's. I am comfortable with them and can find some good issues to trade. I use MS 11 EOD (R.I.P.).

First off, I check with MorningStar to find the top 20 ETF's YTD. Then I load a 2 year history of these issues. Right now I track less than two dozen issues: GASL, SOXL, JNUG, ERX, NUGT, & GLDX, etc..

Next, using Explorer, I display % gain/loss in increments going back one year from today's date (252 bars). Then checking the % of displayed increments, see which are most constant with gains.

Having decided on what might be best issue to trade, then bring up various indicators to see if I can beat "Buy & Hold" by System Testing using various Optimizations, and how often I would make trades in the time frame.

Along with the indicators I plot Trailing Stops using ATR. Trailing Stops are used although the stops may differ from plotted Stops.
