As a newbie to Metastock EOD I'd like to know if there's any (painless) way of charting the historic total value of a portfolio of shares by linking transaction history to Metastock EOD data. The free software ShareVista can do this but doesn't tie in to Metastock data. I'm in the UK and only invest on the LSE.

Thanks

No painless way...

You might be able to set something up in Excel, then read it & plot it using MetaStockCSV. It wouldn't be very flexible, though -- it would need a fixed set of symbols in a folder, I think.

Hi Croesus

If your portfolios meet certain conditions it's possible to generate a portfolio equity curve with my Trade Equity Portfolio Display indicator after running the appropriate Trade Equity explorations. The process is not totally painless, though, and there's a distinct earning curve involved. The portfolio result is created by the exploration summing all individual results. Expert commentary reports are created by one of several explorations as well.

I'll make an effort to upload a sample equity curve display to my website within the next 24 hours and post the link in this thread.

"Earning curve" sounds good, but it should be "learning curve"

I found some free software that will do want I want in terms of plotting total portfolio value: http://www.sharevista.co.uk/ . However this doesn't appear to be able to use local Metastock EOD data.

Hi Croesus

The link below has an example of a portfolio curve generated by Trade Equity. The curve is based on 2500 bars of data and 93 of the current S&P 100. The system tested is PS Meisels Overbought/Oversold, long side only, as distributed with MetaStock.

The second window using the same indicator plots the number of open trades at any one time.
