Martin J Pring Martin J. Pring

Martin J. Pring founded Pring Research in 1981 and began providing research for financial institutions and individual investors around the world. Since 1984, he has published the “ Intermarket Review” a monthly market letter offering a long-term synopsis of the world's major financial markets. He is also chairman of Pring Turner Capital Group, a money management firm, and president of pring.com an educational technically oriented web site.

Demanded as a speaker worldwide, he is the author of several outstanding books including, the classic Technical Analysis Explained, now in its fourth edition. Since this unique book first appeared in 1979, Technical Analysis Explained has established itself as the number one guide of its kind. It is used by international technical societies and many universities for training and is one of the two main books for Levels 1 and 2 CMT certification for the Market Technicians Association. Translated into over 8 languages, the book is, as quoted in Forbes, “widely regarded as the standard work for this generation of chartists. Martin pioneered the introduction of videos as an educational tool for technical analysis in 1987, and was the first to introduce educational, interactive CD’s in this field. His many book titles include How to Forecast Interest Rates, Global Investing Made Easy and The McGraw Hill Handbook of Commodities and Futures, Introduction to Technical Analysis, an 8-hour workbook cd rom course,Technician’s Guide to Day Trading, Introduction to Candlesticks, How to Select Stocks Using Technical Analysis, The Definitive Guide for Momentum Indicators, Martin Pring on Price Patterns (includes 1-hour DVD presentation) and Active Asset Allocation Around the Business Cycle. Recognized by his peers as a technical leader and innovator he was awarded the A.J Frost Memorial Award by the Canadian Technical Analysts Society in 2000 and in 2004 was honored with the Market Technician’s Association (MTA) Annual Award. In 2007 he received the Trader’s Library Hall of Fame award. Described by Barron’s as a "technician’s technician", Martin’s articles have been featured in Barron’s, and he has been quoted in The Wall St. Journal, Financial Times International Herald Tribune, The New York Post and Los Angeles Times newspapers as well as the National Review.

In 2011 he worked with Dow Jones Indexes to create the Dow Jones Pring Business Cycle Index, a series that allocates assets according to the current phase of the business cycle and therefore capitalizes on the fact that the business cycle alternates between deflationary and inflationary phases. The Index will be publish in the first quarter of 2012.
