Dear Sirs: You have a very serious problem with whomever is responsible for the utterly undisciplined changes to the folder structures for your data product(s) for the NA Symbol Utility.

Here is a brief list of this month's changes. Kindly note that MANY have changed BACK to what they were in the past. This happens continually -- I have yet to see a month where these UNNECCESSARY changes to the organization of data have not occurred, resulting in INCREDIBLE amounts of work on the part of the user.

Changes 201107
--------------
Stocks Alphabetical to US Stocks Alphabetical
Stocks Alphabetical -- 2 folders to 6 folders
Preferred Stocks & Warrants -- now a sub-folder of Us Stocks Alphabetical
Preferred Stocks & Warrants -- 1 folder to 2 sub-folders
Stocks by Exchange -- New York Stock Exchange to NYSE
Stocks Grouped by Sector -- COMPLETELY MISSING
Canadian Trading & Quotation system -- COMPLETELY MISSING
Canadian Venture Exchange -- moved to 2 sub-folders
Toronto Stock Exchange -- moved to 2 sub-folders

All of the following must be checked, due to the changes in folder organization:

Items affected
--------------
Custom indicators
Favorites lists
FIRE Addon
Smart Charts
Downloader lists
Explorations

This amount of unbridled revision is COMPLETELY NUTS! Do you have ANY IDEA how much work this creates for the users? What is the MATTER with you people? Doesn't ANYBODY realize these changes are NOT a minor matter!

This creates HOURS OF WORK to correct the items affected, not to mention the time required to check that everything works!

WOULD YOU KINDLY GET SOMEONE ON THE JOB WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!

I have contacted the person in charge of the symbol utility and asked him to look at this. I will reply with the information I get back from him.

Thank you for your patience. Here is the information I got back from the person who creates the symbol utility files:

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}

The MetaStock Symbol Utility will always be based on the structure of our Symbol Database in accordance with the newest version of MetaStock, which is currently MetaStock 11. The changes that have been applied are to match the structure of MetaStock 11’s Symbol Data Base more closely. The images of the Symbol Utility on our website however, have not been up to date with the current structure of the Symbol Utility, they have recently been updated and it is very possible that In order to be able to view the new changes you need to delete your internet cache. As that was something that needed to be done on my end as well to be able to view the new structure.

In the past, because of the limitations within the older versions of MetaStock we were only able to have a maximum of 2000 data files(securities) per local folder. This is the reason that the Stocks Alphabetical folder had 6 sub folders, Preferred Stocks & Warrants had 2 sub folders, Canadian Venture and Toronto Stock Exchange had 2 sub folders. Since the newer releases of MetaStock that maximum limitation extended and made it so the requirement of multiple sub folders is no longer needed.

A few more questions:

1. As of which version of Metastock did the files-per-folder limitation go away?

2. Was there ANY reason for the changes in folder names, such as "DJ Industrials" to "Dow Jones Industrials", "S&P500" to "S&P 500", etc.? This messes up a lot of references, from the SECURITY function to the FIRE addon to FAVORITES lists, and should not be changed unless for very good reason.

3. When unpacked into a new folder, the "US & CANADIAN INDICES" folder has only half the entries it used to. However, the existing folder has many symbols that do NOT update -- why doesn't the Symbol Update Utility remove/overwrite invalid symbols in that folder?

4. The "Stocks Grouped by Sector" is still missing. Why?
