Rajesh Kayakkal’s article “Volatility Percentage Index” contained
the indicator of the same name.
This can be added to MetaStock with the steps listed below:

These steps create a system test to find the optimal
threshold for the VPI for different indexes:

Enhanced System Tester.<li class="MsoNormal" style=">Click Buy Order tab and enter the
following formula.
vpi:=(ATR(64)/C)*100;
vpi<opt1 AND C>Mov(C,200,S)

the
vpi:=(ATR(64)/C)*100;
vpi>opt1 AND C<mov(C,200,S)

the Edit.<li class="MsoNormal" style=">Type
in “VPI Threshold” for the description.<li class="MsoNormal" style=">Set
the Minimum value to 1.<li class="MsoNormal" style=">Set
the Maximum value to 1.5<li class="MsoNormal" style=">Set
the Step to 0.001<li class="MsoNormal" style=">Click William Golson
