Although I have used Metastock for many years (now using 10.1), I only recently switched to Reuters Datalink for my downloaded (local) data. The volume supplied is truncated by 100, I find. I have checked the threads on this and other Metastock forums (most written several years ago) complaining about this. The typical response was, "all data vendors do it, and as long as everything is consistent, one is OK." However, Reuter's own Data on Demand, which is part of the Datalink package, supplies the actual volume. So if one is comparing a local stock to a Data on Demand stock, the local stock volume is off by the 100 factor. I called Equis about this, thinking that there was some way that I could set the Downloader to multiply the incoming volume by 100 (which is the option my previous data supplier used). They said no, that I would have to write a formula and manually apply it to each chart! Of course, all my analysis formulas that use volume will have to be changed. What a PITA. Has anyone written a formula/script that can be used by the Downloader to multiply all Datalink incoming volumes by 100, or know of some other way to automatically change the volume for the data being downloaded daily? I need data for both stocks and mutual funds (distribution adjusted), and Datalink was one of the few I found that supplied the distribution adjusted fund data. Harry

It is possible in The Downloader: 1. Tools -> Adjust -> Data for Multiple Securities 2. Click on the securities you want to adjust 3. Click on the Adjust button

Haddison: That only adjusts for data I already have on my computer. What I want to do is adjust the INCOMING data, so what gets stored initially on my computer is the correct volume---not divided by 100 as it is now. Sorry if my post was not clear. Harry

This is a hold over from the earliest versions of MetaStock. When the downloader would collect data, the value would be divided by 100 prior to storing it. When Reuters Datalink was added as a supported vendor, about 15 years ago, this same code was used as the starting point. Since that time, many parts of MetaStock and the Downloader have been modified and improved, but that part is still the same. The data is collected smoothly and very few customers ever even notice the volume division.

I will add a notation to the program request list so this issue is again brought to our developer's attention.

Thanks for bringing this to the developer's attention. It should be fairly easy to incorporate in the Downloader. If Reuters is concerned about the extra amount of data being downloaded, the operation could be accomplished locally. That is what my previous data supplier, Quotes Plus, did. They offered an option for those using the data with Metastock (see attached file). A similar screen could be in the Downloader. I would think this situation could be a problem for your new users. The Data on Demand volume is actual, whereas the volume data downloaded via the Downloader is off by a factor of 100. Harry

Apparently I cannot upload a file that is stored on my computer. You will just have to imagine what the screen looks like. Harry

Wabbit: I have no idea how to upload to a server, or even what server to upload to. If you can provide some guidance, I will try. Harry
