Good day,

Is there any way of obtaining a mapping table of my *.DAT files to the underlying Symbol or Security name for the data it contains? I don't mind constructing this table manually if that is the only method. I had a quick look inside the Master file but that is binary and I have no knowledge on how to access it.

Any advice gratefully received.

Steve

Such information is stored in binary form inside the MASTER and EMASTER files. The "MetaStock" data format is quite well known (it's a simple extension of the Computrac format from the 1980s) - just do a search for "MetaStock data format" on Google.

It would be a trivial exercise for a programmer to read in such files and provide you with the "dat" or "mwd" file number.
