I have been using Metastock EOD for a couple years and have a question about the size of my database. I trade in U.S. stocks only and screen all stocks from the NYSE, ASE, and NASDAQ. My initial download from all three exchanges regardless of price or trading volume is @5500 stocks and that is my question. Do 5500 stocks seem to be a “good” number or am I missing some issues?

You are missing some securities.

AMEX + NASDAQ + NYSE + NYSE Arca is over 7800 securities here.

Perhaps your data supplier doesn't automatically add new listings and automatically maintain securities that have changed their trading symbol?
