Hi All,
Bought the metastock eod 11 last week and installed on my home and office laptop both are Thinkpad T61 and they are same type. I keep same image for both of them and always update the image whenever I installed new software or end of every month create an image again for back up. I never had an issue with other software while dumping the image on both of them as they are similar may be signature of HDD will be different.
I had an issue with the home laptop (virus etc) I did as always before dumped the image I created using the office laptop on which I have already installed and activated the metastock. After the restore I tried to start metastock I get this error message "Originally installed on different computer". I did everything I can think about like uninstalled, scan registry and cleaned it up etc etc but every time I get the same error message. Well I totally agree with the stopping the piracy but sometime it becomes the pain for the genuine users. It happened on Friday and I am not able to use the software at all for the whole weekend so could not do any analysis for coming week? boo hoo. I have already send the email to the support but it will be fixed only on end of my Monday hopefully. I hope I do not have to re-install all the software I have just to re-install the Metastock
I wish I had read the licensing documents or FAQ. I focused my energy more on reading how to use the software rather then worry on how to maintain it.
Any body else had the same issue. if these things happen are we allowed to re-install considering I have already installed on two laptop's and activated both of them, and wiped one without removing or exporting the transfer. regards, Indee

I don't know the particulars of copying an image, but I believe that you are allowed to install and run MS on two computers, such as home and office. If you want to transfer to a third computer, you need to transfer the license using the MS utility. If you had a hard drive crash on one computer and cannot recover the license, I am sure that Equis will accommodate your situation. You will just have to wait for their office to open.

Read the Activation Control manual, it seems that there is no limit on the times of re-installation and re-activiation of the MetaStock ver 11 on the same computer hardware. Therefore, I expect that user should be able to re-activiate the MetaStock on the same computer hardware (which has valid record in Equis' license server) after Windows re-installation / MetaStock re-installation.
I expect that they have some logic (e.g. hardware ID computed with whatever algorithm) to remember the computer hardware licensed, and that's why users are allowed to re-activiate the software on the same computer hardware.
If my guess is correct, then I will be interested to know if I need to de-activiate and re-activiate my copy of Metastock after CPU / motherboard replacement (assuming that the hard disk and the content is kept).

Please do report back when you have a solution indee. I plan to completely change my hardware when Windows 7 is available for the general public. Maybe a few months after.
I had a problem with EOD 11 after playing with it for a while, then when starting Metastock after a boot, it said that the AST service could not be found. I could. It was running. MS could not see it. So, I reinstalled Metastock without issue. Works fine now.
Still trying to discover anything of more value than MS EOD 10 though. The provided systems never have worked with futures. Not enough data, I suppose. I'm just glad that my own system still works.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for the input. I think my mistake was that I created the image from the office laptop and dumped it onto the home laptop. I should have atleast backed up the virus stuck version of my home laptop.
What puzzles me is that even after I uninstall it does not remove all the trace of it as it still has either some registry key or file which has that hardwareID which belongs to my office laptop. So when I do re-installation I still get the same error message.
Hope tech guys can help on this. Once I get some solution I will post it here.
But still I think the right step is to deactivate the license on the pc/laptop you are going to change either software or hardware and then re-install the metastock and import the cert.
regards,
Indee
