Can someone advise if it's possible to create a Favorites group by entering a list of codes please? (Or maybe by somehow editing Favorites.dta?) Thanks for any help! :)

Since this functionality is not immediately implemented in MetaStock, the way we implemented this in our data updating software was to allow users to create a .txt file and then our software creates a duplicate of the symbols in a separate "Custom Folder". We also use this functionality to automatically update index constituents, sectors/subsectors etc.

I believe there used to be a piece of software by Jon Debry years ago that had similar functionality but I can no longer locate it on the Debry web site.

So is that a fairly complex bit of programming to create the symbols in your custom folder then?

Yes - it's certainly functionality that is beyond the MetaStock Formula Language, The Downloader and can't even be done with the normal MetaStock Developer's Kit that Equis sell.

So you're selling a program that will do this then I gather Richard?

Not exactly - it's a feature of our stock data updating software (which does require a subscription to our data services)...

However, if you can find it, I think there was a utility by Jon Debry that had this functionality. I recall it was released for free.

Maybe others recall where to get it?

Are you Australian? I see you offer Aussies stocks data. I copy and paste the data I get from Etrade Pro into Excel and run a VBA program I wrote which converts it into Metastock format so I can run intraday updates any time in a few seconds. Though of course I have to pay the monthly Etrade cost of $80 (I trade thru CMC for the $9.90 trades.) I haven't figured out a way around that yet :(

Yes I'm based in Australia. Quite an ingenious solution to getting up-to-date daily data into MetaStock!

Thanks, sure beats my previous deal with Almax where I could only get six intraday updates a day 20 mins delayed. I just have a single Watch list with all the ASX codes in it in Etrade Pro. You wouldn't know of any cheaper source of live data though would you?

If you have a brokerage account with Interactive Brokers you basically just pay the ASX live data royalties - it also has an API and DDE (Excel) interfaces.

I don't think you can set up a watch list with 1500+ stocks in it using IB though can you? Also with Etrade I just click copy on the watch list and paste the whole lot into Excel in one go.
