On a daily basis i need to plot the horzontal pivot support/resistance lines for the security I trade.

Almost always there will be a pivot line way above the candlesticks and one way below the candlesticks. I can plot the lines with an indicator script, but Metastock insists on always keeping the indicators in view, which severly "scrunches" the candlestick chart. I need the indicators to in no way affect the scaling of the candlesticks or the y-axis. How can this be done?

The "horizontal line" study behaves properly, but is not suitable because there is no way that I know of to create the lines with a script like you can an indicator. Nor is there a way that I know of to give a name to a horizontal line (i.e. when you hover over the line it just says "horizontal line", whereas hovering over an indicator I can see if its R3, S3, etc).

So basically how can you get an indicator to NOT affect the y-axis in a similar fashion as the horizontal line study?

In simple terms, it cannot be done in MS.

If you want a solution that is NOT bulletproof, you can shift the value of the Rx and Sx lines to the pivot value if their values are too large for the period being viewed on the chart. Of course, if you change the amount data viewed on the chart, the indicator wont know this and wont redraw but if you never use the zoom function or scroll... a very round-a-bout method is possible.

i.e. use the HighestSince() and LowestSince() in conjunction with LastValue() to define the extremes of price in the "visible area" on the chart (this is what MS is using to rescale the y-axis). If these extremes are near the Rx or Sx lines, these lines take their normal value otherwise "hide" them under the pivot value.... It's not pretty!

How to 'hide"?
