Hi,
I transferred files from an Xp to a Vista 64 bit home premium computer. One last problem ( I Hope).
I used Sonic Software to make a data copy of the folder with the data in it to transfer the folder to the Vista computer on a DVD RW disk. The downloader from the Vista computer will not recognize the the path but the path is correct on the C drive on the Vista computer and matches exactly the path on the XP computer. The downloader in the XP computer has no problem reading the the path name. Smart charts of the files can be opened from Metastock on the Vista computer. The folder name is a long one.

Hello,
We will need a bit more information to see what's happening here. When you state that The DownLoader on the Vista computer will not recognize the path, what do you mean exactly? Are you receiving an error? Which section of the DownLoader are you in that you cannot see/access the folder?

In the downlaoder, I click on File, and then open. I open the file on drive C. The error is An unnamed file contains an invalid path. This error message occurs even when I used a Flash drive to transfer files from the Xp computer to the Vista computer. The same error occurred when I used Sonic software to transfer the data on a DVD-RW.
Howver, I tried Nero Softaere to transfer the files from the XP to the Vista computer and the above did not exist and I was able to read the files from the downloader. Unfortuntaely, Nero software truncated the folder name and the graphs do not work.

Strange that Nero truncated the path. How many characters in total is this folder path?

Hi,
The files name 144 characteres and spaces. Truncation haoccurs at 102 charactere/spaces.
I copied and pasted the entire file name on the new computer (Vista) but that wont work still.
I was able yesterday to get the graphs to open up but when I click on the edit button for stock symbot , dwonloader says that an unnamed path conatains an invalid path. I feel like I am getting close to the final solution.

I was able to duplicate this on my Vista 64 at home, and I will give it a try on my XP machine at work tomorrow. It does surprise me that we'd run into any more restrictions on one OS over another, since this would seem to be more a DownLoader limitation, not an operating system limitation.
Edit: I would add that we are aware of character length issues, I would not expect differences between Windows XP and Vista unless something in the folder path is changing, and it was close to the limit before.

Hi,
As I continue searching for the problem/solution, I have noticed that when I go to the file open in the downloader and click on the local drive C, that nothings appears in the locad disc C. However, all of the data shows up and I can open each data file and change or edit it.
Then, I created a folder in local drive C but with only five characters to see if character length was the problem. Apparently, the character length is not the problem because the new small folder did not appear in the local drive C from downloader, file, open.
I disabled my firewall and AVG anti virius software (resident shield was only disabled) but the problem still persisted.

We have noted a bug specific to Vista in that if you store data in a parent folder, you will not see the subfolders at all. Because of this, we only recommend storing data in subfolders. For example:
-I create security files directly on the C: drive (Not recommended) -I go to File-->Open in The DownLoader -I will see the securities on the C: drive but I will not see the subfolders of the C: drive
Another example:
-I store data directly in C:\MetaStock Data -I also have subfolders in MetaStock Data (i.e. C:\MetaStock Data\Stocks) -I will see the securities stored in MetaStock Data, but I will not see the MetaStock Data\Stocks folder
