Today, for the first time since originally purchasing MS 9.0 EOD back in 2004 or 2005, I decided to sign up for Reuters Datalink. But, I cannot seem to get an up-to-date list of symbols. I am still running MS 9.0.
I installed the data CD that came with MS, set The Downloader to update ALL of the folders of data that were installed from the CD, used the Update Symbol Database feature of The Downloader to (I thought) update the symbol lists, and finally ran the Download Prices feature. While many symbols updated to the correct date, it appears not everything was updated and newer symbols are not included. For instance,
1. None of the common market indicators updated, so the latest date I have is 2004, which is the CD date.
2. The symbol V (which is currently assigned to Visa) updated correctly, but the name in the Downloader shows up as Vivendi Univers Adr, so it appears that stock names associated with symbols hasn't updated correctly.
3. Two of the securities I watch closely SLV (iShares Silver Trust) and GLD (Streetracks Gold) don't show up at all.
Am I missing something?
Thanks

One thing to keep in mind that the Data CD has not been updated for some time. We actually use a Symbol Utility instead of a data CD now as it is much easier to keep this type of media up-to-date. You can download the RDL Utility from the following link: https://www.metastock.com/customer/support/download/symbolutility.aspxThat said, the Symbol Database for 9.0 is no longer updated (You can perform Tools-->Update Symbol Database and the functionality will work but it will not give you a current list of symbols). 9.1 is the oldest symbol database that we update (Which is a free update to 9.0). You can contact our sales department at 1-800-882-3040 if you'd like to request a 9.1 CD. Shipping charges may apply.

Thanks, Justin. I will contact Sales to see about getting the upgrade to version 9.1 so I can use Reuters.

Well, Equis sales said that the upgrade patch for 9.1 was no longer available since version 10 has been released. So, sort of to my chagrin, I went ahead and purchased 10.1. I downloaded the latest symbols list (updated 1/12/09) from the link provided in a previous posting in this thread, and then downloaded the latest data.
It appears all of the stock symbols updated, but none of the symbols in the Indices & Indicators folders updated....the latest date still shows 2004. These are the symbols for Sectors and Industries, Common Market Indicators, and US and Canadian Indicies.
Under the Downloader, in the window where you select which folders and subfolders you want Downloader to get data for, I have these folders selected, so I presume it's trying to get the data.
I've also noticed that you can't download data from earlier than 2004. I like to have a good long history of stocks, back to 1990 if I can get it. Does Reuter's limit historical data to no further than 2004?
Thanks
