Hi to all the member, moderators etc for their quick responses -really a nice forum to belong to - Just in general - I hope you will party the night through and arrive in the new year (2009) unscaved. Wish you all a prosperous new year with the best of health, wealth, fortune and all the love through the difficult financial times and happy trading - we all must believe and thank out creator for the priveledge to live and blessed to be here. Best wishes from sunny South Africa.

Ok so my favour that i am asking is the following:

A exploration that give a result from - AO Elliot Oscillator increasing for the past few days before it turns positive breaking through the 0 line, The RSI turning bullish,the Demand Index increasing and the 13,55 and 144 MA (Exponential) is turning bullish- this must be the Buy signal

The sell signal - would be a cross of the DI through the 80% STORSI turning bearish.

I don't want to be greedy but if possible if you got the abovementioned sorted also do a expert advisor and a system test?

Please excuse me if i am misusing the experts but it seems that this could help me a lot - test it for youself it seems to be giving nice signals

Regards

Arrie

Hi Arrie,

I thought perhaps the Administrators of the Equis Forum may have responded to your request by now however, given that they haven't, I will express my view as a member of the Forum.

From the way I see it the object of the Forum is to, amongst other things, advance Members knowledge and secondly provide the Members with a format in which to assist, where possible, in the resolution of coding/programming problems.

Given the view expressed I am more than happy to assist, where possible, with coding on the basis that you post your code and a description of what you are trying to achieve within that code. Break your code down into sections that you feel comfortable with and remember we all start with the basics.

Sincerely,
oz

Thanks Oz

The problem is I know what I want, but don't where to start. The objective is to create a exploration which eliminates securities not within my personal criteria as probable buying opportunities.

1 - I want to find securities with a RSI which is bullish - don't know how to write a formula picking those,

2 - I want to find securities with a bullish DI meaning moving towards the 0 line

3- Securities with a increase in volume over the past few days

4 - Elliot Oscillator is turning bullish the past few days (moving towards 0)

If all of these rules are adhered to the security is a potential buy

In the Expert advisor the sell signal must be a cross (bearish) of the DI below the Storsi

Is it possible to compare the values of these indicators for the previous few days to establish if they are bullish? What formula does one uses - sorry I may sound stupid but I see ot once mybe I will get the hang of it.

Oz is this more or less what you needed? or do you want a formula from me? I cant give you one because I don't know where to start.

Thanks

Arrie

Hi Arrie,

I hear what you are saying so lets move on and try to solve the problem.

"1 - I want to find securities with a RSI which is bullish"

The 1st formula you need is RSI(Data Array,Periods) so you will need to specify the following:-

- Data Array (eg. open, high, low,close)?

- Periods (lets assume we are talking days)?

- How do you define bullish?

I believe from your first post on this subject that you are looking at a chart with these indicators super-imposed which may provide some guidance.

Will await your reply.

Regards,

oz

Hi Oz

RSI - close,14 days

I have made a screen print highlighting all the indicators and added comments as what I am looking at and the correlation to the Martin Pring Momentum System buy signal - but unfortunately can't attach it here

I will give my comments here as per your reply -

Bullish in what I want to achieve is the following:

RSI moving up from 0 towards 70 for the say, past 3 - 5 days

DI moving up from negative towards 0 for the past 3-5 days

EO - moving up from negative towards 0 for the past 3-5 days

I think this will eliminate securities of which these indicators are not bullish and leave me with potential candidates of which the signal are about to trigger - you could have seen that on the screen print

Thanks for you willingness to assist!!!

The idea is to eliminate securities that does not comply with the rules as stipulated earlier. It seems that the filter is very strict although the season is to minimize potential buy's, so here is my try:

Col A : RSI(C,14) - just to confirm the value between 30 and 70 and if it is turning bullish for the past 3 days

Col B: DI () - also to confirm value below 0 and if it is turning bullish for the past 3 days

Col C: EO - also confirm value below 0 and if it is moving towards for the past 3 days

Col D: Close - current closing price

Col E: Target price - Alphomega Highligter (Fast) value/price

Col F: Profit % - (AO Highligter (Fast)/close*100)

Filter:

Col A> Ref(RSI(C,14),-3) (to eliminate securities that is not bullish for the past 3 days)

and Col A>30 and Col A <70

Col B> Ref(DI(),-3) - to eliminate securities that is not bullish for the past 3 days

and Col B<0 to eliminate those above 0

Col C>Ref(Elliot Oscilator),-3)

ColC<0

Col F>10.00 to only show potential securities with profit possibility of 10% and higher

Mov(C,13,E)>Ref(Mov(C,13,E),-3 - to eliminate securities not bullish 13 period MA

Maybe I use a Ma on RSI , DI and EO to smooth out and using longer periods than 3 days to confirm bullish up in these indicators.

I await anybodies reply and ideas to better the exploration and maybe giving more possibilities than the currnet code

Thanks

Arrie

Hi Arrie,

I would suggest for simplicity that when coding this exploration it be broken down into the various conditions and will therefore be easier to modify in future.

Below is an example of the code for the 1st two conditions in indicator form.

{Cond1 = RSI is between 30 & 70 and rising for the last 3 days}
v1:=RSI(C,14);
t1:=3;
cond1:=Sum(v1-Ref(v1,-1)>0,t1)=t1 AND
v1<70 AND Ref(v1,t1-1)>30;
{Cond2 = DI is below 0 and rising for the last 3 days}
v2:=PDI(14)-MDI(14);
t2:=3;
cond2:=Sum(v2-Ref(v2,-1)>0,t2)=t2 AND v2<0;
cond1 AND cond2

Will come back later.

All the best

oz

I am not an expert but here is my shot.

p1 := RSI(14);
p2 := DI();
p3 := Mov(C,5,E)-Mov(C,35,E);
{-----------------------------}
a1:=(p1-Ref(p1,-3));
a2:=(p2-Ref(p2,-3));
a3:=(Ref(p2,-3));
a4:=(p3-Ref(p3,-3));
a5:=(Ref(p3,-3));
{-----------------------------}
b1:=(a1>0)*(p1>30)*(p1<70);
b2:=(a2>0)*(a3<0);
b3:=(a5>0);
{-----------------------------}
b1+b2+b3

The p*s are my formulas.
The a*s are my calculations.
The b*s are my logic.
The last is my indicator to study.
Play around (add/sub criteria) and let me know what you come up with.

Hi John

Thanks for you input - call me stupid - do I copy this code into my indicators?

Hi Johnl

Thanx - this is perfect - how do I covert this into a exploration? - This works like a dream - I await your reply!

To create an exploration use this indicator>0 as the filter to keep only stocks getting hit.
For Column A use Close.
For Column B use this indicator so you can see if it is =1,2, or 3.
Add other indicators in the other columns.
