Hey,

I'm fairly new to Metastock and still trying to get my bearings. Could somebody help me with the following fairly basic problem I'm having please.

I'm using one directory to play with the Metals and Mining index stocks. What I want to be able to do is as follows:
1. Creat two new inner windows and apply and RSI and MA set to ALL stocks in the directory - i.e. I want these changes to apply to all charts in the directory.
2. Skip forward through the charts and be able to apply support, resistance and trend lines to each chart ONE BY ONE or independently without the freehand lines being repeated on all stock charts.

At the moment I can have one or the other - i.e. I can add the windows and indicators to all of the stocks, but then any trend lines etc I apply are imposed on all of the charts aswell. OR I have to add windows and indicators chart by chart. Surely MS must have this functionality.

I had a search but couldn't find a similar topic. Apologies if this post is redundant.

Many thanks,

AMSH

Note: I have tried playing with the "keep line studies" box to no avail.

Hi amsh,

Welcome to the forum.

Have a read in the MS Users Manual about the use of templates. As you have figured out, there are some limitations but it is possible to overcome some/all of these?

To start, open a chart and create the inner windows with their appropriate indicators as required. Don't add any line studies at this point. When you have this chart looking like that which all charts should look like, then save this current chart as a template (use the default template if this is the way ALL of your charts will look) As you have previously opened charts using other templates, you will either have to reapply the new template to all charts previously opened, or, delete the MSSMART folders which will force charts to be opened on the default template, but you will lose any previous line studies etc which have been applied. (There has been much written about replacing templates and MSSMART folders, just search the forum for these posts if you need to).

Now you can scroll to the next chart in the data folder to manually apply your line studies. As these objects are being saved in each stock's smart chart, they will not be applied to other stocks as if they were part of a template.

Hope this helps.

Hey Wabbit,

Thanks for the welcome. Got it sorted although it was a bit of a drama. I found a mass of similar posts once I knew in which direction to look.

Many thanks for the help.
