How can I get MetaStock to display the prices in Heikin-Ashi price style?

MetaStock does not have the ability to display the prices in the Heikin-Ashi price style directly, although a work-around is possible.

You must convert the data from a MetaStock data file into Excel. You do this by

  1. Start The DownLoader.
  2. Click Tools | Convert.
  3. Set the Source File Type field to MetaStock.
  4. Set the Source folder to the folder where your MetaStock files are located.
  5. Type the name of the MetaStock files you want to convert, into the Source File Name column.
  6. Set the Destination File Type to Excel.
  7. Set the Destination folder to the folder that contains all of your Excel files. For example, C:\Documents and Settings\{User}\My Documents\HA Excel.
  8. Leave the Destination File Name field blank. The file Names are supplied automatically by the conversion.
  9. You can change the options, however the default options should be fine for this file.
  10. Click OK to start the conversion process and store the files in an Excel format.

Once you have the data in the Excel format, convert the data as described in the article written by Mr. Valcu.

Once the haOpen, haHigh, haLow and haClose values are set in the Open, High, Low and Close columns, you must convert these back into a MetaStock data file in The DownLoader.

You might make the Symbol “ha{symbol}”.

  1. Start The DownLoader.
  2. Click Tools | Convert.
  3. Set the Source File Type field to Excel.
  4. Set the Source folder to the folder where your Excel files are located.
  5. Type the name of the Excel files you want to convert, into the Source File Name column. Note: you can use Wildcard characters for the name. For example *.XLS would convert any file with a XLS extension. You can also browse and select the files to be converted.
  6. Set the Destination File Type to MetaStock.
  7. Set the Destination folder to the folder that contains all of your MetaStock files. For example, C:\MetaStock Data\stocks.
  8. Leave the Destination File Name field blank. The file Names are supplied automatically by the conversion.
  9. You can change the options, however the default options should be fine for this file.
  10. Click OK to start the conversion process and store the files in a MetaStock format.

Once this data file is available, opening it in MetaStock, and set the price style to Candlesticks.

If you wish the to have the candles colored by up and down, use the post on Candle Colors to create a custom expert advisor for the Candles.
