Please help, I can't get metastock 10.1 to open

Hi everyone,
I really hope someone has an answer to my bigtime issue. When I click on the shortcut to open metastock, the hourglass shows for about 4 to 5 seconds, and then nothing!!!!! When I look in the task manager it shows the program, but it just isn't running. So I end the task and still nothing when I click again on the icon. The downloader works fine, but the licence manger doesnt open either. I checked my firewall and it's allows the mswin.exe and dlwin.exe and qcenter access, but that doesnt help at all. Support thought I had too many processes running but other more intense programs like photoshop and office work just fine. A local tech guy said something about the program not finding a part of the program so it can't complete opening it. I did do a complete re-install but that didn't solve the problem either.
Has anyone ever had this issue, or do you know a solution to it. I would greatly greatly appreciate your help so much. Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer. I so want my metastock back, so I can follow my favorite stocks to trade.

which operating system u use.
any chages in OS have you made recently.
or any changes in u r antivirus programs.

Hi there,
Thank you so much for your response. The OS is Windows XP. I did forget to mention that I did has a power surge, and I had the power supply changed out earlier this week however, every other aspect of the computer is still funtioning perfectly. I can't believe the problem could have affected this one program only, but of course I'm no computer expert. Let me know what you thinnk please.

The power surge could have damaged a pgm but the reinstall should have fixed it.
Might try renaming the equis folder before the install and/or try to run the executable
program from the equis folder and not the shortcut?

In your case, Try this.
Uninstall metastock first.
then delete equis folder from program files.
then restart pc and reinstall metastock.
if works then gr8, if doesnt then try this..
Uninstall metastock first.
then delete equis folder from program files.
search u r c drive for equis and delete all the files..
then start, run , regedit
in there click on my computer
and then click edit
find
equis
when it finds equis, just delte that registry.
and click edit and find next..
once this is done
then search for metastock in reg edit
and delete all
restart pc
reinstall metastock
now it must work..

The issue is possibly activation related. Are you able to launch the License Manager (Start-->All Programs-->Equis International-->License Manager)?
Did you install from a CD or a download? There were issues on some PC's with the earlier releases of 10.1 that could cause this type of behavior. I recommend downloading the latest build (10.1d) from our web site if purchased from us. If purchased from a dealer, I'd recommend seeing if they have at least 10.1c available on CD.

The downloads page doesn't refrence 10.1d. This is what I see at: https://www.metastock.com/customer/service/downloads/ The download link referred to downlaods MS101EOD.exe - no mention of "D". Also, could Equis provide a changelog so we know what has changed between 10.1 (a) and (d)?

OMG you are so not going to believe this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the folks at tech support were alot of help. But it turned out to be an issue with my ipod connection!!!! I guess if you have somewhat limited ram ( 512MB is what I have.) somehow the ipod makes the computer get caught in a loop, and it consumes almost all the memory. I noticed the extra drive in my computer, unhooked it, and the damn thing runs like Olympic sprinter. Thanks for all of your awesome suggestions. I really do appriecate it alot.
