I am wanting to chart the Australian Share Price Index (SPI) which has a day session and a night session. Charts are available for each one separately but I want to chart them as one, but keep the session data separate.

Meaning for say, Monday 4th August, have the night session (open ,high, low, close) as one candle followed by the day session (open, high, low, close) as another candle but using the same date.

Does anyone know if this is possible within Metastock charts?

This is not possible with MetaStock - it can only plot one candle per day when plotting daily data.

With MetaStock Pro you could simulate this with, say, two simulated hourly bars (eg 10am for the night sessions and 11am for the day session) but you'd need to rework your data to do this.

Cheers,
Richard.

Thanks Richard.

Metastock Pro is a real time data package. Not having used real time, can you confirm for me that if I got it to do the charting as above, that I can still do my end of day charting with it as well.

I currently have Metastock v7.01

MS Pro allows you chart intraday charts (whether they are real-time or not). It does daily charting just fine too. It's a fairly big upgrade fee though.

Yes, have checked out pricing and for trading one index it is an expensive upgrade fee.

Will look into the possibility of using Excel to chart the SPI this way, so long as I can programme in the formulas to run the technical studies I have in mind.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
