I've had MetaStock for only about a month, but I'm getting it. I just finally took the time to create a local folder and downloaded all my stocks into that folder. I updated and downloaded the prices (this took forever) but all is well. HOWEVER, now when I open a chart, the default date on every chart is 5/6/2008. I tried to update new prices, using today's date, and this took a while, but I'm still getting that same 5/6/2008 date on all my charts. When I run a data scan, of course it's coming up with old information dated 5/6/2008

HELP. I tried calling I tried email and I tried online support, I've been basically ignored for 2 days.

SUMMARY:
a) U R not alone in your situation of trying to get help on the net and being frustrated.
b) PICKING UP THE PHONE - works well though.

We have found that reaching Equis Real Time on the net is highly limited.
Apparently they cannot respond if they are too busy on the phone with others.
But once through - they are pretty knowledgeable and very friendly.

Responses to Email is just not effective for 'real-time' problems -
Tech support responses to an initial query average a minimum of 48 hr and sometimes 3 to 4 days. And with that it is usually 24 h each time you respond.

Suggestion 1: If u are in the US or Canada - they have a toll free number and when u get to them - usually they are terrific. For the web-based stuff and by email - forget it IOHO.

Suggestion 2: If you are depending on a software product for charting and analysis - find another one. MS10 PRO may be less costly but is truly last century and EOD-oriented technology. It has basically no means of real-time alerts on more than a single equity - except via Quotecenter - and those from QC are pretty much limited due to essential lack of any useful QC training materials, the lack of a Workbench facility in the restricted QC version we receive [for an apparent discount price we pay to Reuters via MS].

BL: We will not be continuing with our QC subscription and have dropped use of MS10 - as it is just far too complicated and much too much of a time investment to get anything out of in a reasonable time frame. PLUS - for non US users, the support is virtually terrible unless we pick up the phone to call from overseas and that is pretty pricey... Only the forum seems to be active and effective outside the US - Equis has wierd office hours, NO non-US support, and few of the webinars or support group discussions are on line at convenient times - nor are they taped. Yes the EDU materials are taped - but they are pretty basic and fall well short of addressing truly innovative needs. PLUS, it is like pulling teeth to get Equis to tell you how to get lists of non-US exchange INDEX symbols - something that should be right-up-front-and-center on their website.

Quote Tracker, SSPRO, AMTD and Stockcharts.com have far more reasonable and useful scanning, screening and plotting software IOHO.

However, if spending hours and hours - days even - learning on a very antiquated charting interface [no JaVa, no pinning of lines, no real-time alerts without hanging the entire system til they clear, no charts outside the box, no auto updating RENKO box size, single function scanning actions that are seemingly highly illogical, etc, etc, - but lots of help about how to build formulas from those who have been doing it for years] is what you are looking for - best of luck and patience. Better u than us.
