As I understand it, Equis created v 10.1 to work with MS Vista. I am evaluating Vista and get mixed results using 10.1.
I have 2 computers...one is a 17" Dell laptop with a duocore chip driving the display @ 1900x1200 resolution. I also have a Dell desktop with dual duocore XEON chips on the motherboard; this rig uses a 30" monitor w/an ATI video card driving the monitor at 2600x1650 resolution. I have 2 legitimate copies of Vista Ultimate.
After reading several posts on the subject I installed Vista as an upgrade (since others report no degredation in performance compared to a clean installation.) After the laptop upgrade (which had XP Pro w/MS 10.0) everything worked perfectly using Vista Aero, including MetaStock w/10.0. In response to a question from Equis tech people I installed 10.1 and could not see any change in performance...it works the same with either version on the laptop in the Aero mode.
The desktop is quite a different story; Vista upgrades XP Pro ok and seems to work with everything except MetaStock. The problem is the mouse cursor becomes spastic when working with Vista Aero, although is ok with Vista Standard (said by others to be a souped-up version of XP Pro.) Installation of 10.1 yields exactly the same behavior...i.e. I detect no difference comparing 10.0 to 10.1...the same as my experience on the laptop.
Conversations with Equis tech support have not been helpful; they indicate they cannot reproduce the problem in their lab and therefore do not what to fix. Another curious anomoly; I can minimize a MetaStock window created w/Vista Basic, change back to Aero display and it works fine so long as I do not close the window. Minimizing it is ok.
I feel Equis needs to be more forthcoming about the limitations of 10.1 as it relates to Vista...to me I can see no difference between the two versions...either will work on small displays and neither will work on large displays using Vista Aero.

hey tricky.... my comments here might not be much help but here goes....
all my systems seem to be working better with vista premium than they did with xp.... the quirks of vista were a pain at first but preformance has been without complaints..... my vista systems are dual cores, both the intel duo cores and the amd duo cores..... each with 4 gigs ram..... dells....
my monitors vary in size , 19 and up, with no noticable issue there either....
i have both versions of v10, esignal and qc, along with several revisions.... seems esignal's is up to v10.2 ...... all versions have preformed the same, with the exception of the explorer problem which pyradius fixed for us.....
you appear to be more computer savvy than me, my experience with microsoft version upgrades never went well..... seems there was always neverending obstacles, lack of memory, cpu , compatible programs and such........ i've resigned to just buy new machines built for each new microsoft version ..... h

Hayseed...
Thanks for the feedback; my son reads this forum regularily and sez you know your stuff! I could not tell from your reply whether your success w/10.X is using Vista Aero resolution, or Vista Basic. Mine works ok using Basic with EITHER 10.0 or 10.1, but using Aero, NEITHER version will work.

hey tricky..... yes , all v10.up versions work without noticeable problems on the duo cores vista's aero resolution, both intel and amd...... my vista's are from dell so they are purpose built and should be taylor made to handle any demanding needs the aero resolution might have.....
there are some heavy requirements for aero..... even a slight mismatch in the graphics card or drivers might prove fatal..... and as i mentioned in the pm, my largest monitor is 27", so your 30 is considerably larger..... have by chance you tried on a smaller monitor.....
here is a couple lines from the link above....
Aero also requires a DirectX 9 class graphics processor that supports a Windows Display Driver Model Driver, Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, and 32 bits per pixel.
•
256 MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor with a resolution greater than 2,304,000 pixels (for example, a 30–inch wide-screen flat panel LCD monitor that has up to a 2560 × 1600 resolution)
i've noticed some others having problems with the system tester when using the new duo cores..... there again, mine are not having those problems..... h
