Hello!
I am planning to buy a new notebook with Windows Vista 64Bit. Now I use MetaStock 9.0 Pro and I wonder if I am able to use it on Vista 64Bit. I am asking about this because on the forum there are a few contradictory information.
Thanks for your answer,
regards.

Thanks for your reply. I had better look for a notebook with Windows XP, I guess it's not worth trying to install MS on Vista and finding out that I am that person who didn't manage to run it on Vista :-)
Anyway I saw yesterday on Equis Web Site that MS v.10.0 is now compatible with Vista: https://www.metastock.com/products/realtime/metastockpro/?overview. I hope there will be an update for earlier versions to Vista, although the announcement says that there won't be any.
Regards,
Wolf

Although this thread could have been open for quite some time already, and for the benefit of those whom is/are still hanging with metastock version 9.X with newer purchases of notebook / laptop or desktop with Windows Vista, you could install the Microsoft (R) .Net Framework v1.1 before installing Metastock 9.X.
For your references, please refer to http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID003100
Have fun....cheers

Have fun....cheers Roy, are you saying that installing .Net 1.1 will enable MS 9.x to run properly under Vista? I run .Net on a different system for another app, so I'm familiar with installing it, and may be using a Vista system in the future. With no desire to upgrade my MS 9.1 EOD, it'd sure be nice to get it running under Vista if I move to that OS. Other than Vista compatibility, I see no improvements in v10 and still don't know why they gave it a major-upgrade number assignment except for marketing reasons. Anybody successfully running MS 9.1 on Vista?

Hi PTJim,
I can't say for sure for many Windows Vista user since I felt there's instability in this operating system. I have tried installing the Metastock the usual way as in Windows XP but to no avail and soon after I had tried the method as recommened by the web link, well, it works. I hope it does for you too.

For the benefits of those who are not very computer savy, please allow me to rephrase the steps and do forgive me if I had made any mistake (hopefully someone can help).
Solution
This issue is resolved in Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1, however you will need to use the following procedure to install both the .NET Framework and the Service Pack at the same time:
- Create a folder at C:\ name it as "Net Framework"
- Download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, save it into the newly create folder at C:\Net Framework using links below:
- Ensure that the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package is named dotnetfx.exe. If not, change its name to dotnetfx.exe.
- Ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 is named dotnetfxsp1.exe. If not, change its name to dotnetfxsp1.exe.
- Open command prompt as Administrator (lower left hand corner; choose "Run")
- Copy and paste the following commands using the order shown below, execute one after another
- C:\Net Framework\dotnetfx.exe /c:"msiexec.exe /a netfx.msi TARGETDIR=C:\dotnet"
- C:\Net Framework\dotnetfxsp1.exe /Xp:C:\dotnet\netfxsp.msp
- msiexec.exe /a c:\dotnet\netfx.msi /p c:\dotnet\netfxsp.msp
- C:\dotnet\netfx.msi

Hi,
My notebook is installed with Windows Vista 32 bit. Would the above mentioned installation applicable? Actually, I have installed MS 9.0 Pro and have ran it for a while, sometimes, it has crashes. Do I need to uninstall MS 9 and follow the above-mentioned procedure to install the Microsoft New Framework 1.1?
Regards,
Bullstock

Hi Bullstock,
I'm not sure. However, a friend of mine with Windows Vista 32 bits did the same installation; and claimed that it works too!

I am running the latest version w/Quotecentre on a Vista 32-bit and a 64-bit machine and all is well except for the annoying Vista security question when you load MS.

You can switch the annoying "question to allow running" off. Go to: Control Panel, "Add or remove user account", "Go to the main user Accounts page", "Turn user account control on or off"; uncheck "Use user account control (UAC) to help protect your computer"; and click "OK"
