Recently, I had been facing some problem in MetaStock in Win XP. So, it occurred to me to test MetaStock on My Vista test Machine and to see if the problem was solved.

Initially, there were some problems in opening charts - I think I was getting message that "Folder is not open" - So I accepted that it may not be possible to use it in Vista. Then I thought of trying to configure it via the Compatibilty wizard - Checking the option to run MS as Administrator solved the problem and it started working.

and the problem that I have been experiencing recently in XP installation was not there. Well, here are some of my observations about this trial experience :

1. Display of charts was not as crisp and sharp as on the XP machine - may be it was because Vista might not be having Drivers for my old 1600*1200 monitor.

2. Main or only functionality loss I noticed was while opening datapane in Downloader - the instance was when there is a folder A having Metastock data files, and then this folder has a Sub-folder B again having MetaStock data files. In Vista this folder B was not just visible in file->open dialog of Downloader.

3. Vista seems to have a cute thick border around every window - this border seems to be wasting precious space in case of Chart Windows.

4. Copy - move securities from Explorer Reports seems to be taking some more time - obviously it is not optimised for Vista.

Since this trial is solving one of my major problems, I am feeling like continuing it along with XP installation. Are there any other users who have ventured out into being a Guinea P.. - are there any surprises I can look forward to, or some precautions I must take, apart from trusting my XP things primarily and keeping a back up ?

Pentium D CPU 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB RAM
