Hi Group,

This is my first post. I've been working through some of my own formulas as well as those included in MetaStock. Some work much better than others for my data.

Are there any Explorers/System Tests which the group find particularly useful? These may be on other web sites or posted in the forum itself?

Is there any way to unlock the pp:: explorers and system tests included in MetaStock? It would be great to view these formulas and adapt them. Anyone got the password?

Are there any good plug-ins that the group likes? If I shell out US$300 I want to at least know someone finds value in it. The chart pattern reconition one sounds ok?

Hope you can assit,

Stewart

I have purchased the Murphy Chart Pattern Recognition, both Bollinger plugins and the Elder plugin. I believe that all are quite competent products, but are different approaches to TA (I'm still contructing my own approaches so wanted to explore these). In particular, the Bollinger and Elder plugins are very complete, comprehensive collections of the indicators and explorations developed and promoted by their authors.

Although I like the implementation of the Murphy plugin, my personal approach is away from CPR because I'm of the belief it's too subjective and open to a lot of interpretation and seeing what you want to see. However, those who successfully adapted to and use Murphy's recognition methods would find this a useful tool.

Same for Bollinger; his are well-done and complete as well.

Currently, I'm spending a lot of time focusing on Elder's indicators, methods and explorations after studying his work (read Trading for a Living and Come Into My Trading Room for the details); I'm leaning toward applying some Bollinger indicators (primarily normalized volume and perhaps MFI) to the base Elder templates. The Elder plugin is extraordinarily comprehensive, including all of his published TA work, including older indicators I haven't seen him use at all in his later work (like Bull Power/Bear Power and Elder-Ray) - this permits you to test/evaluate everything he's taught over the years. Many full templates are also provided, as are some explorations; I think it's a great value in terms of time trying to program it all yourself, unless you really want the programming challenge (I prefer to spend my time learning how to trade better, rather than writing/debugging my own code).

It wouldn't surprise me at all if I end up using both the Bollinger System plugin and the Bollinger/Elder explorations to screen stocks, then apply templates blended from both plugins for analysis - it's just my personal affinity for both men's work. Please keep in mind that I consider myself a short-term discretionary position trader; I'm not trying to create the "perfect" mechanical trading system for myself.

I have no exposure to any other for-sale plugins, but find some free ones like Richard Dale's ATR Chandelier Stop incredibly useful as well. Explore the Plugin section of this forum for many more evaluations/opinions of these tools.

Shop around; I saved a ton of money on my plugins by doing so. Best price on Elder's plugin, for instance, is on his website elder.com - it's $200 vs $300 everywhere else.

Happy New Year!

Many thanks PTJim! It sounds like the Elder's plugin is the one you are using the most. I'll take your advice and dig a little deeper into the plugins section of this forum too!

Once again - thanks for your time,

Stewart
