Hello
I have some questions which may appear quite basic:
1. Let say i want to open a smartchart for GFIG. must go specifically to the folder where it resides
\\metastockdata\US stocks\A-B and open the chart or is there a shorter route? is it possible use "Open" then go to US stocks and type GFIG and then enter and the program will look into all subfolders and find GFIG?
2. The same thing with explorations. I want to explore all US stocks, but in order to do that i have to go to all the sub folders and select all the stocks. is it possible to simply select a folder and make the program select all the data in all sub folders?
3. When updating metastock data there are many symbols which are no longer valid, is it possible to eliminate them from my harddrive somehow?
Thanks
Rafael

hey rafael.... reguarding (1), meta will not look in subfolders in the manner you would like.... you can use java script to accomplish that but it would only save at most 2 or 3 seconds over the normal method....
reguarding (2), when you add securities to explore, lightly click the highest folder your interested in.... lets say the entire metastock data folder for instance..... just lightly click on it to highlight but not open..... now notice the little down arrow next to the right of the word open.... click that arrow.... now click open folder contents..... that will load every security in every sub folder in the entire metastock data folder at once.... and of course, if your just interested in the 'us stocks' folder and subfolders, follow that same method but highlight the 'us stocks' folder.... try it you'll see....
reguarding (3), there are several methods to accomplish that but truthfully the best method is just to slowly go thru the folder and right click on each offending security and select delete item..... you can use the shift or ctrl to select several at a time.......h

Re 1 & 2: Metastock v8 and above allow you to store 6000 securities per folder. The way I organise my stocks is into exchanges (AMEX, NASDAQ, NYSE) so all I have to do is navigate to the exchange I want to look at. This makes selecting folders to explore rather easy. Re 3: A good data vendor should be automatically removing delisted securities. If yours doesn't do this, an easy way to filter out non-trading securities is to use my (free) date plugin at: http://www.tradernexus.com/nexusdate/This way you can filter out securities than haven'e traded in X calendar days. Cheers, Richard. |
