Hi,

I am a Metastock9 user at this moment and I just want to know this kind of thing is possible on Metastock(or developpers's kit).

My question is, are there any automation facilities like Excel VBA in Metastock?

I am currently draw a lot of trend lines on the chart and I would like to automate to draw trend lines.

For example, just draw a trend line by hand first and a button draw 10-20 more trend lines parallel to the first trend line automatically. The distance between trend lines can be parameterized.

In Excel, this kind of thing can be written by VBA but I am not sure about Metastock.

I don't think Metastock formula functions does not support this kind of automation functions so I am thinking about if developpers kit support this kind of facility.

If you could give me any advice, that will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Lonely trader

Kaz

The MetaStock Developer's Kit does not have any ability to draw trend lines.
The MSX part of the MDK only gives the ability to plot analytics.
It could draw lines on the chart for you, but they wouldn't be a trend line.

Hi Brenden,
OK so Lines can be drawn automatically by using the tool?
And can the program specify the length of the lines or the distance between lines?
(e.g. 30mins or 1day etc.)
Thanks,
Kaz

The lines it draws are indicators.
Anything you can do with a formula, you can have it do.

Brenden,

Thanks again. I've already developped quite a lot of my own Metastock formula function and it's a part of ordinary Metastock 9 default facility. Then what exactly can Developers' Kit provides us?

I found the following articles from web page and that sounds like the one I am asking.

i.e. Add customized buttons so that I can add automation function like the one I initially wrote...

Isn't this not the case???

https://www.metastock.com/partners/developers.aspx

MetaStock Custom User Interface Utility

  • Add or delete buttons on the MetaStock custom toolbar
  • Add or delete items on the MetaStock tools and help menus
  • Link to applications, MetaStock templates or layouts, documents, URLs, and more
  • Menu items can vary depending on whether or not a chart is opened
  • Chart menus have access to the security's name, symbol, and periodicity
  • Implemented as a command line based executable that can be called from batch files or other applications

That's adding shortcuts to the toolbar and the tool and help menus.

You can't use it to add trendlines or anything like that.
It's just for adding a URL, program link, etc.
The command it runs must be able to be done in the Run dialog in Windows.

Thanks Brenden,

Metastock is definitely one of the best trading platform so I wanted more but I understand you can't help me any more.

Thanks very much for your support and I will look forward to adding functions like my requested in near future.
