I recently added the Indicators package to my data subscription, and am playing around with the NYSE TRIN, plotted in a new window on a chart of .NYA.

I don't see the interpretation/correlation. It seems to be below "1" during the recent rally (since July), and near-flat since the end of August.

In contrast, the NASDAQ TRIN, compared to IXIC seems more in line with intermediate-term market movement.

Why the difference? What am I not doing or seeing correctly?

What symbol are you using for the NYSE TRIN?

The indicator which came w/MS 9 EOD:

BM NYSE Open-10 TRIN
----------------------------
{This indicator calculates a variation of the Arms Index (also known as the TRIN) using data from the NYSE exchange.}

ADI:=Security("C:\MetaStock Data\BM Data\X.NYSE-A",C);
USV:=Security("C:\MetaStock Data\BM Data\X.NYSE-A",V);
DCI:=Security("C:\MetaStock Data\BM Data\X.NYSE-D",C);
DSV:=Security("C:\MetaStock Data\BM Data\X.NYSE-D",V);

(Sum(ADI,10)/Sum(DCI,10))/
(Sum(USV,10)/Sum(DSV,10))

It's possible that the BM Data folder on your drive is not getting updated. Make sure that you are downloading the BM Data folder under C:\MetaStock Data in order for these broad market indicators to be updated. FYI, there is a symbol that should track the NYSE TRIN. The ticker should be

.STI.N

Looking via Downloader, they all seem to be up-to-date. However, I DID notice that there are duplicate symbols, for weekly and daily. ie: "X.NYSE-A" exists TWICE.

How does MS know which one to use?

Found ".STI.N", (only back to 5/1/2000), but the plot still doesn't seem to be of any use. It's somewhat similar to the Equis "BM" Open-10 when averaged, but I wouldn't even bet a lottery ticket on its use.

MetaStock uses the security file that is nearest to the periodicity of the base security of the chart it's being plotted in. Without knowing the specific values you are seeing I can only speculate as to the issue. You may want to contact support so that we can look into the issue more closely. Here is the data that I show for this indicator.
