I intend to create a custom index, say Index, based on two securities (SecurityA x 2 -SecurityB x 3). I wonder if it is possible to display "Index"" as a normal security, i.e. in a candle stick.

Also, is it possible to display other indicators (like RSI, MACD, Bollinger Brand, etc) with "drag & display" format?

Thanks!

sa

Index:= Security("SecurityA",C)*2-Security("SecurityB",C)*3

The security function will always plot as an indicator. You would have to use the composite function in the DownLoader (File>New>Composite) to actually plot something like this as price bars.

Pyradius,

Thanks for your help. I have create a "composite" now. Some questions here:-

1) The 1 min bar chart doesn't show a complete candlestick chart, but just the close, or a line chart can be shown. Is it because of the historical data. I assume that this "composte" can be updated realtime. If so, it will show a complete price bar chart then.....

2) The symbol of this composite is named to be exactly as one of the security. Is that right?

3) Does it require the two securities to be located in the same folder? As I want to create a composite to be, GBP - EUR, these two securities are located in folder G and folder E.... Apparently, I cannot create this composite.

4) Can I create a composite with more than two securities? What is max number of securities that I can create..?

Sorry for too many question, I just want to know / learn more and I think other can learn also....

thanks in advance!

sa

regarding Q 2, is there any way to change the name of the composite as it is very confusing when I open the chart ... two names given to a security (one represents the composite!)...

The composite will always take the primary name and can be a bit confusing. The composite security is actually a "virtual" security. It can only be done with 2 securities (Primary/Secondary). It doesn't exist other than as a calculation of the primary and secondary securities. You are also correct in that the primary and secondary must exist in the same folder, and should maintain the same periodicity for the composite to work properly. Composites do not "update" per se. The primary and secondary securities must be updated for the composite to update. Because a composite is not actually a security file, you cannot run explorations on a composite, system tests on a composite, etc. However, you can always use the Security function in these areas of the program and use the composite for your charting. Hopefully this clears some of this up.

well, is it possible to have more than one composite having the same primary security... I may try it later for testing the best "composite" to use with different factors involved. If the answer is yes, that will be very very confusing.

It may be good to have this item "rectified / improved" in the coming version as a wishlist, if the same issue is still present with version10 then.....

You can create more than one composite with the same primary security. It is best to make the composite name descriptive enough to tell the difference between them.
