Hey Asish-
I've never used this feature before. When I tried it, by default, my file wound up in this directory: C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\System\\MSMAPI\\1033. That's gotta be a bug???
Here is a workaround, but I don't know if it's the best solution. I did test it and it works.
My Computer
Control Panel
Printers and Faxes
Add Printer | Next
Select 'Local Printer' and uncheck the auto detect option | Next
Select 'Use the following port'
In the dropdown box, select 'File:' | Next
Port name: 'MetaStock Reports'
Select a printer: 'Generic' Manufacturer and 'Generic/TextOnly' Printer Type | Next
Select 'Keep existing driver' | Next
Printer name: 'MetaStock Reports'; Default? No; Share? Yes: Name: 'MSREPORT' | Next
Location: 'Local'; Comment: 'MetaStock Reports' | Next
Test? No | Next | Finish
Create a folder to hold your reports. e.g., C:\\Program Files\\Equis\\MetaStock\\Reports
Start MS and load your exploration report
Select Print
From the Printer Name dropdown box, select 'MetaStock Reports' | OK
In the Print to File Dialog, enter the target file name: e.g., C:\\Program Files\\Equis\\MetaStock\\Reports\\Exploration1.txt | OK
Now, you have a text file and you know the location

Which version of MetaStock are you using? When I chose print to file and specified an output filename, it stored the file in C:\\Program Files\\Equis\\MetaStock. I am using MetaStock Professional 9.2.

Hey Guys-
I'm using v9.2 too. It's strange that mine came up differently. It might be a Windows thing. After I run an exploration, and I can see that there are results being reported, I send that file to the 'MetaStock Reports' printer. It works without any problems. When you do it this way, you don't need to check 'print to file' any more.

Guys,
Windows stores a value called "current directory." Depending on what you had been doing on your computer before you print to file will depend on what is the current directory. The current directory could be almost any folder on your computer and is the default destination of the print-to-file file.
The easy way around this is to explicitly specify where you want the reports file to be printed. Because there is the chance that you get the directory structure wrong if you use some thing too complicated like C:\\Documents and Settings\\***\\Some SubFolder\\And Another etc, that you print to somewhere simple like c:\\Reports and get all your printed files there.
Personally I print to C:\\ and then move the files fromt he root directory to the appropriate place.

hey yall.... the metastock version should not carry any weight..... print to file sends the file to the address you provide.... put in an address that accessable such as , C:\\Documents and Settings\\hayseed\\Desktop\\roy\\explore.... that would send the file named 'explore' to my desktop 'roy' folder..... don't just supply a name, supply the entire path.....
but i must be missing the obvious here.... uasish, why would we want to 'print to file'....... can't think of a purpose so just courious.....h
ooopps, just noticed wabbit answered similar, in the south we talk slow and type slower..... neat site wabbit.... will check it now and again.....h

Neat, fast and simple. Just how I intended it to be!
... and just for those who remember the conversations elsewhere on the site about this... fully validated HTML and CSS. 8)

I think the utility of external results would be utilitzation in other programs; perhaps posting them on a web site. If the desired output is plain text, it could save you some time 'printing' the results to a plain text file instead of cutting and pasting; otherwise, you would have to convert the data from the clipboard and then save it in a plain text format, since it is not in DOS plain text format. If you want some other format, you'd be able to use cut and paste directly (and faster) via Excel, WordPad, etc.

Respected Storkbite,
He knows better who suffers. In my Exploration reports (invariably on Sunday Nights) values will differ than the inside
inspection box values. Many a time i have voiced my problem in this forum. To solve this i want the "Inspection Box" values,so that i can put it in my Excel Intaday/Intraweek Prepearotory sheets. No other reason.Let "Wabbit" 's site
prosper.
Regards
Asish
N.B. I use MS 9.2

hey asish..... kinda thought that might be your goal..... don't print to file..... just click, once to highlight blue, on any of the securities returned in the exploration results.... then right click and select copy..... then open excel..... right click on a cell and select paste..... that will put the entire explorations results in excel...... takes less than 5 seconds.....h

Dear Hayseed,
Have you tried to copy the Box containing Inspection report or only the exploration reports. The values of inside box (Inspection Report) varies from the outside Exploration reports(in my case).I can not copy/print the inside box reports. As Pyradius &
Wabbit's suggestion i tried c:\\....... it says Acsess denied then i tried with unticking the destination file "Read Only"
properties nothing happened then i simply put a name without prefixing Directory path it took successfully but now using (Search in Start up Xp ) with that file name i can not retrieve where is that file.t.Plz help me.
Regards
Asish

hey asish..... thanks for the reply...... it now appears your talking about a specific securities individual historical results and not the entire collection.... if so, that's just as easy but somewhat different....
once your looking at the results, again click one to highlight, blue.... now at the same time press the 'ctrl' and 'c' keys on your key board.... now open excel and using 'paste special', paste in the results....
this might take a little longer if your reults cover a large period...... how to's on both, paste as text.....yall take care over there......h

Dear Hayseed,
Thks for your reply. Why I did not thought about that earlier but now the realization has hammer struck me about the enourmos
unwanted data.I only require the last day/week data from inside the box as the outside box is mismatching.
This solution cant be an option. Can you suggest some other way out, like keeping the (reqired periodicity as required by different codes intact) i limit the exploration through filter ,say like using Week/Month function,so that the inside box will give only a week/month data.Thks for your suggestion.
Regards
Asish
