Hi, I'm considering buying MS to do some backtesting of a theory I have. My testing will be a little more advanced than the functionality the backtester software (eg- Tradesim) provides. For example, ENTRY: DI cross or DI lines within 5 of each other EXIT: Either use a MA line to create a stop loss and sell when price moves through it, or a trailing stop (with 0.5% of the close price added for "leeway"). I then intend to run tests using DI of 4-20, trailing stop percentages from 0.1-3%, and extract data from the tests, such as: - Average points gained - Average stop loss distance - ROI - Average win - Average loss etc... I also require the utility to go through a directory of, say, 500 stocks and optimise the above indicators and settings for each stock. Does MS allow this? Many thanks - alex

I am no expert on TradeSim but I am pretty sure that TradeSim does all of those things? MetaStock also does all of those things. Your conditions for entry and exit are not that complicated and could easily be implemented in TradeSim and MetaStock. Your ambition for "data mining" or "curve fitting" might lead you into deep water, but that part is up to you. wabbit :D P.S. Have you ever thought that paying someone to do the testing might be a better option than buying a complete product??

Hi Wabbit, Thanks. I'm not sure it would be cheaper to pay someone to do the testing. If I have, say, 500 stocks and all of them need testing with different DMI lengths (eg: 4-20) and other factors, it could take a long time? Are there Metastock programmers out there who could help with this one? Alex

hey ali...... there are several people , including equis's tech support, around that could do that for ya in just a few minutes..... not trying to knock anyone out of the programing money but odds are it's something you could do...... and well within metastocks 30 day trial period... that trial period might start from the slc utah shipping date, so factor that in..... metastock includes a di systems that you can easily modify...... you would need 3 components...... metastock calls them the system test, exploration and the expert....... codewise, they kinda go hand in hand so your not lookin at 3 times as long to do all 3.... maybe 20% addtional time for the other 2.... still, betcha it would take start to finish under 20 minutes.......h
