I'm familiar with the usage of the ref function as described in the manual e.g. ref (close,-12). However, I've encounterted this in Metastock's Bollinger expert: ref(c>bbandtop(),-1). Can anyone explain in English terms what it means? I'm guessing it checks if c>bbandtop in the previous period, but I'm not sure. Thanks!

Owen Your guess is correct. Both "C" and "BBBandTop()" are enclosed by Ref(,-1) so both expressions relate to the previous bar. Roy MetaStock Tips & Tools
