When I try to use the captioned function to copy some securities, out of a folder consisting of 3000+ securities, to a new folder; I have found that the securities are not in chronological order. It appears to that they are ranked as of the date in which they were created.
How can I sort them in a chronological order, so that I can easily copy them to else where.

hey sa....
1) Using Downloader \\ Tools \\ Copy to copy the selected securities into a folder
2) Make the folder being updated realtime under Metastock \\ Tools \\ Option \\ Configure Server \\ Files Update; and delete all other folders
using number 1 as you mentioned is just a fast way to recreate folders pre-filled with data..... it just copies the dta files from the mother folder and associated smart charts if you want them also.....
yes, the second step is how to set that new folder for realtime and yes remove the other folders from the realtime list if unneeded....
to arrange the securities/futures by some method other than alpha order, meta's default method, just copy and add them to your new folder one at a time in the order you want them to be in, chronlogical, market cap, shares outstanding.... whatever method you want them listed by........ in the case of 30 tickers it will not involve adding over a couple minutes to the task.... they will stay in the order you added them.....
i noticed earlier you mentioned having a large number of tickers being updated in realtime..... that should not cause meta to crash but will sure slow things down...... it would help to keep that list to a minimum...... sounds like that's what your doing now.......h

hey sa.... oopps, my bad.... it was my vector vest/metastock deal that sorts by anything fundamental....... here's are copy instructions, i'll expand on it later this weekend.....
and just what is the vector vest/metastock deal,
if your familiar with vector vest you'll know their program has the ability to sort stocks in a huge table form, similar to excel, that has about 20 or more fundamental parameters..... what i did was take their tables and tie them to meta thru hyper links.... so i can sort by market cap, dividend yield, shares , pe, eps, virtually all fundamental parameters and just click on the symbol and it opens the chart, not in vector vest but in metastock.....
seems like i posted something on the how too's long ago.....h
