I am trying to transfer MetaStock to a new computer. I have installed the program on the new computer and copied the shares data, the charts folder contents and the .dta and .dat files from the metastock folder, but some personalized settings such as favorites ("excellent performers", "my portfolio" and "stocks to buy or accumulate") are still missing. How do I transfer them? Are there any other things I should do or watch out for?

You can copy the favorites files from the MetaStock folder. If you have any other questions let us know. Doc

I have already copied favorites.dta If do Open>Favorites>My Portfolio for instance, I see xao.mwc in both old and new installations, but the list of stocks is missing from the new installation. Similarly under Stocks to Buy or Accumulate I see all the charts but not the stocks.

Can you be more detailed where are the stock not appearing? You do not see them when you go to favorites or in symbol look up? Doc

I can put a missing stock in favorites by repeating what I did initially. For example: Open>Local Data choose a stock double click to get chart right click chart and choose Add to Favorites click Create in choose My Portfolio click OK The stock now appears in Favorites under My Portfolio. My question is: how do I transfer the stock I have previously placed in Favorites to my new computer without having to go through the above procedure all over again for each stock? Transfering the favorites.dta file seems to only transfer charts.

If you have made changes to the Favorites list close MetaStock before copying the file. The favorites file is saved when MetaStock is closed. You should close MetaStock on both computers before you start to If the securities are local data files the local data has to be on both computers in the same location. All Items added to the favorites list, are saved in the favorites file. This should address the issue. If you still have problems it sounds like for some reason the changes to the favorites file on the one computer are not being saved and transfered to the other program. Doc

That must be it. =D> I have the local data on the old computer in a folder on drive D: but since the new computer has only one disk and one partition I put the local data in a folder on drive C:. Some other programs ask where files are that they can't find, but apparently Metastock is not one of them. Is there anything I can do about that except re-enter the data? (DOS used to have a SUBST command for this sort of thing.)
