FAQ: Values in Explorer vs Indicator on a chart

I have a general type question on the differences in values in an indicator and in an exploration.
In a test exploration, I go into exploration options and set the exploration date to a specific date. I check the results for a calculation in a column against the same calculation performed in an indicator for the same stock on the same date on a chart. Should the values be the same? I have a large amount of dates loaded for each.
I remember reading somewhere that calculations were performed differently or that not everything worked the same way in the System Tester, Indiciator Builder, & The Explorer. I just can't remember where I was reading about it.
Thanks
vm

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but I think your indicator might be giving you a numerical value
and the explorer might be giving you a binary number for example 1=yes or true and 0= no or false.
If this is the problem there is a work around which one of the more advance forum members might be able to help you with.

The values I was getting were from BarsSince, ValueWhen, Trough, etc.. I was trying to quantify setups that were of a certain duration and moved a certain amount in a certain time. I write my code as an indicator because it is easier to code when I can see what is working and what is not. I normally take the code once it is working and jam it into an exploration or a filter of an exploration. When it wasn't flagging on the companies and dates that I knew it should be hitting on, I have each column display a value for a component of the calculation. I can compare this to the values with the indicator depending on what day the exploration was run on.
The values on some things were not the same, by a long shot. Which is why I was checking if all formulas work the same in an indicator as they do in an exploration. I remember reading something a long time ago about some things you can't do in all of MS components {tester, indicator, & explorer}. I just couldn't remember what it was and a search didn't bring up anything familiar.

hey vaughn..... for best results the dates should be exact between the chart and the explorer.... esp in the case of moving averages or any formula containing moving averages.... if the dates are okay it might be in the indicator codes....
in some indicators the name might imply one thing but the last line of code be something slightly different.... the explorer looks at the last line at times..... you might check the last line of code.......h
