Hello,
Is it possible to move data from QuoteCenter to MetaStock format data files? If so can this be done from within QuoteCenter or does one have to use Excel as an intervening step?
Thanks in advance for any information/help.
Regards
Rakesh

Hello Rakesh-
Welcome to the forum!
I do not know of anyway to use the QC format directly with MS. All of the usual numerical data can be created directly in MS i.e., price & volume. You will be severely restricted in what you can import otherwise, because MS will only recognize a set number of data columns. You could, for example, exchange data in the MS OI column with values from QC such as ROEL12. What exactly are you trying to do? Maybe we can get it to work. Equis has asked before how users are utilizing QC in their daily trading life... for me, I use it as a screening tool. It's too different from MS to be an integrated part of the MS trading experience.
If you do decide to import QC fields, then Excel is the route that I'd choose, too.

Hello G_S(sorry I dont know your name hence using the call sign),
Thanks for responding. My primary purpose is to create an intra-day database in MetaStock file format using QuoteCenter as the data source. I dont intend to use QC as a charting platform . Excel linkages in QC work fine and I have been able to reach till that stage(setting up DDE links in a spreadsheet). It is the next stage i.e. moving the data (sourced from QC) from Excel into MS format data files, that has me stumped . Hope that clarifies my query.
Regards
Rakesh

Rakesh-
Once you have your data coming into Excel via DDE, to get it into MS, you will have to use the Downloader (or an OLE link- which is an entirely different topic). Mostly, I do this manually using cut-and-paste, but some parts of the Excel formatting can be automated with VBA macros. For example, if my DDE fields are numberous, I will use VBA to put my columns into the correct order and hide all colums that I will not be exporting to MS.
The format that the Downloader is looking for is exactly this:
Symbol, periodicity, date, time, open, high, low, close, volume, and open interest.
As I said before, you could substitute whatever numerical data you want into some of these columns. You'd just have to keep straight that OI was really ROE.
There is more than one way to do this, but one way to convert your Excel file is to open the Downloader and select TOOLS | CONVERT, then follow the prompts. This method will create a new security file that you can open directly in MS. Another way to selectively import data for an existing security is to copy the data from Excel to the clipboard. Open the security to be modified in the Downloader using FILE | OPEN. Then highlight the area(s) that you want the clipboard data to occupy and paste it into place.
Overall, it's a tedious process, but it can be done. Perhaps in the future, the Downloader will become more flexible and allow for multiple custom fields to be imported, too.
HTH,
George
