Hi Lugz-
Welcome to the forum!
Be sure to check out the FAQ; it contains information about converting free data. Also, search the forum thoroughly. In a nutshell, free data providers can be utilized, but you will probably not just 'download' the data and open it up directly in MS. You will have to convert it to a usable format and import it using the Downloader. There are numerous examples on the forum for different providers. You might also check into 3rd party batch processors. However, in the end, the cost of EOD data from Reuters Datalink is well worth the minimal fee. The data is as accurate as you can get and no further conversions are necessary. Weigh all of your options when figuring out the real cost of 'free' data.

Hi Lugz,
I'll start by saying that I subscribe to Reuters DataLink and prefer it over various free sources of data. It's more comprehensive and doesn't really cost very much.
There are some download applets that pull data from Yahoo, MSN, and a couple others. Dig around on windowsmarketplace.com or download.com and you will find them. Most of them have a limited mode that you can use for free and cost $50-$100 to get the full version.
Good luck, EB
