Reference: http://forum.equis.com/viewtopic.php?p=13893 go through the horrendous half our update but at the end when you get the collection report, click on filter and select errors only. In the report highlight all the securities with errors ( select the first one and press CTRL+A) then right click on the selection and select "delete securities", the next day when you update your data, let me know if it is faster. >>
I have a problem with that approach to getting rid of obsolete symbols/files. Newsletter advisors have suggested stocks that are NOT a part of the standard Reuters list of stocks. But when I asked the downloader to get get the data, it did. Thus, if I were to use the above approach, it would zap these desired data files and not restore them because they're not on the "standard" Reuters symbols list.
In the mean time, the problem I've been having is that the downloader hangs (stops dead) at some unknown symbol. I have to do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE in order to terminate the hung download process.
I have lots of outdated symbols in my database. Reuters should have a simple utility to zap these. It would be easy enough to do based on the OLD date of the last data.

Hi rputman,
My only suggestion is to copy this symbols out of your current folder and keep a backup just in case ... Sorry I don't have any other ideas :(
