Brand new metastock user with reuters datalink w indices- does anyone know whether it is possible to generate advancing/declining issues by sector? There are sector indices, but havent figured out whether a/d charting is possible by sector. Thanks

The symbol exist for NYSE, NASDAQ and one other ... Take a look at the symbol database under the indices folder ... From memory the symbols were kinda like : X.NYSE-ADV , X.NYSE-DEC etc ... Patrick :mrgreen:

Thanks PAtrick- I found the broad market indices, what i was trying to generate were indices such as Biotech sector, Inductrials etc which would show advances and declines by industry group-

Hey Kadip- You could use the forum.dll to create a custom index on any folder of your choosing. Then you could define your own industry groups.

I'll have an article on using MetaStock to create approximate Advance/Decline history for almost any stock grouping in the November issue of MSTT. An article from several months ago also shows how to calculate A/D information daily by just using the Explorer. I'm not saying my methods are easy or give as accurate results as most professional data providers, but they do work for the budget concious with some MS skills. The concepts can be applied to almost any group of stocks having consistent data. Roy www.metastocktips.co.nz
